    GCR Bridge Project

The redesign all sounds very logical.

    Building a Station

Why not contact the Gloucestershire-Warwickshire railway and ask how much it cost to build the Hayles Abbey Halt platform? This is a simple timber-faced structure built by volunteers. I'm sure in return for a donation to the fundraising for their current viaduct repairs they would advise.

    GCR Bridge Project

I suggest 'spades in the ground', demonstrating visible progress, is vital to maintaining the momentum of the project and therefore the fund-raising.

Great Central Railway News and Updates

I think I would regard a line around the shed as a 'first iteration' to establish a connection between North and South. In the fullness of time an alternative location for the shed could allow the layout to be revisited. Although there is a height difference to overcome, I guess a chord into the...

Great Central Railway News and Updates

Phil, thanks for your reply. As you say, not ideal, but unless another location can be found for the shed, probably the best option to start off with. I'm looking forward to the Factory Flyover work starting! Andy

Great Central Railway News and Updates

Given that a lot of effort and expenditure has been put into upgrading the shed, what is the current thinking on reinstating the railway round or through the shed once the reunification is complete? Andy

I have made an additional donation in addition to my monthly standing order. I encourage everyone to support this appeal.

And why should the railway afford to raise the bridge? It's the road-users who have grown their vehicles over the last decades, so should pay for any road improvements.

    GCR Bridge Project

If you look at the geometry of the chord to the main line you will realise that to achieve this the junction would essentially be on the bridge, there just isn't room. And I can imagine that operationally there needs to be room for a full-length train to get off the chord and wait on NR metals...

Thanks for the update, things have been quiet, and I've been wondering about progress! Andy

Parts of 7027 Thornbury Castle to be used for new build 47XX.

It does seem completely wrong to destroy a locomotive which is currently under restoration, hardly a Barry hulk, to support new builds. Perhaps Didcot will listen to public opinion and restore 7027 alongside the new builds?

It would be nice to think that Network rail could do something to progress the GCR job while the are at it!

Very interesting - I hope that what is being done is consistent with the reunification plan!

Western Queen sent into wrong platform at Kidderminster 22 June 2022

When the driver sets out to pick up his train at Kidderminster, does he know in advance which platform he will be routed into? Or does he just accept that the train waiting in the platform he is routed to is the one he is intended to couple up to?

Britain’s steam trains could soon be powered by POO

I agree that part of the Brush site could offer a very attractive option, although the difference in height would have to be accommodated. Maybe a smaller 'running shed' on the site of the current shed, and a restoration/overhaul facility on the Brush site? Andy
