    Volunteering - East Lancs Railway

I approach the Lancs late last year to offer my services. All I have found is positivity and a warm welcome. They really look after volunteers. Do it!

Standard 9F no. 92219 off to the Highlands

The owner is fabulous at convincing railways there is a plan for restoration. Sadly, I predict, nothing will happen at Strathspey and eventually he will be evicted from there as he was at KSE and WR.

    Lincoln-Sheffield/Leeds line rolling stock question

Very much so. I have a feeling 17 is going to be addressed as part of the TRU developments around Leeds

June 2024 reopening of the line between Clitheroe and Hellifield for passenger trains

The risk of that would be huge given CAR don't sign 150's either.

June 2024 reopening of the line between Clitheroe and Hellifield for passenger trains

That needs sorting then! There aren't any diagrams for them. I know they used to when 150/2's worked the Lancasters.

June 2024 reopening of the line between Clitheroe and Hellifield for passenger trains

Are you sure? There is no booked work for Skipton on any diesels other than 158's. They used to.

Northern Class 331 East:West unit swap

Exactly. The 0709 to BDQ wasn't heavily loaded. 3 cars will be perfectly ok on Bradford services going forward.

    Class 319 Northern departure

Not taking any more 769's despite plenty available.

    Class 507 preservation society.

Given the 315 group wrote to pretty much every Pres Line in the UK to try and secure a home, I worry for the success of this bid.

What's been the single most exciting development for UK heritage railways in 2023?

It might sound glib but I would say that all have survived - often through having to change their operating model - less steam, more Disneyfication events etc, even though a few have some battle scars. Pres faces a huge issue with volunteers as people now work longer and the days of the classic...

    KWVR - Infrastructure Upgrades Funded

Obviously I don't. Perhaps you could educate me and the rest of the forum what else the 144 would need at KWVR to become PRM compliant.

    KWVR - Infrastructure Upgrades Funded

Just lock out the toilet and job done.

    Northern CIS: uncared for?

I like the new NT announcements.

Great - that could be a nice day out.

    Heritage Visit Advice

I am completely mobile to be honest - some southern opportunities would be of interest as I have done very few of them

    Heritage Visit Advice

Hi All - I have the fortune of a free day on Friday 3rd November - does anyone know which pres lines are running a service on that day without me doing an epic trawl of all the websites? Thanks in anticipation. UofH.

    Longest Heritage Railway extension

Dreams sums it up. Delusion closer to the truth for their early days. Rather than struggling I would say 'taking a sensible commercial view of the situation'

How could heritage railways encourage more visitors to arrive by public transport?

I visited a heritage railway on Sunday by public transport - largely because they have excellent ale..... It took 2 hours each way rather than 35 mins by car. Cost, even with the cheap £2 bus fares (4 of) was still more than the car. It's not difficult to work out why people use their car as...

    Heritage railway financial problems.

Their numbers may well be miniscule compared with the Moors or SVR but then again, I expect their costs will be too. Operating steam on a long railway is eye wateringly expensive so I applaud WR's commercial thinking.

Wasted trip to Teesside Small Gauge Railway

To review the attraction as 'Terrible' is harsh and has the potential to put others off going, having the net effect of reducing income - an ever decreasing circle. My experience of Trip Advisor when I look is that quite often those who leave 1 star reviews only review when they are unhappy -...
