Does anyone know if the OPC have refreshed their tests?

Hi there. I lost both of my lives at the psychometric assessments some time ago and wondered if I might have a chance again. I heard that the OPC last changed their tests in 2013 so just wondering

Am I being ungrateful for northern rail

I would say if the pay and Ts and Cs are enough for you personally then I wouldn't worry about what other companies might offer. I don't work for Northern but I can't imagine that outside London you have many other TOCs to choose from

HS2 Manchester leg scrapped: what should happen now?

How about an interchange station with East West rail?

(Artwork) of the Coalworks spur on the Piccadilly Line, London.

Hi there, I hope this is the correct place for this. My wife painted an awesome picture of the disused spur bridge that branches off the Piccadilly Line west of South Harrow tube station. I hope it's pleasing to anyone in that area!

    Cross Country HST at Dawlish.

I'd love to go down to Dawlish some time just to check out that bit of track. Great video by the way!

Dogs allowed on West Midlands Metro for 3-month trial period

When this happens does it go "woof" by any chance?

    Croydon Tram Shortage.

So hopefully that means there will be a handful of k4000s up for grabs right? Even if they're no good they could be cannibalised for spares surely

TFL assessment for customer service role

The first assessment for tfl is pretty straightforward, just hammer the practice material and you'll be fine (unless the assessment is different now). Tube driver roles are internal only so you would need to 'get a foot in the door' first. As for Train Operating Companies it would be better to...

    Weekends and part-time railway jobs

What about Ontrak recruitment? I think they still supply station staff to TOCs and they're an agency so might be good for casual work

    SCAAT / RAAT

As far as I know trainee driver psychometric tests use Group Bourdon / trp 1 and trp 2 instead of Scaat / Raat and hence you'd start afresh

LRV Driver KeolisAmey Metrolink Assessment 2 Question

As someone that has recently started trams in Croydon, I cannot stress the above enough.

    Passed but failed

If I rightly recall, that one test would count as your second and final life in the psychometrics. It is a question of whether you want to chance it or apply for a TOC / FOC that accepts standard (national)

    Job reposted after Interview

If they've not said no then you might be on some sort of shortlist. Emailing them after 3 weeks would not be an unreasonable thing to do

Hear hear! I guess though, if they did their job properly they wouldn't have a job for long...

Dealing with awkward passengers when working as a TM/conductor

I recently witnessed a tram driver deal with a customer bringing a non-folding bike on to the tram over the PA. The driver was firm, polite, concise, and persistent. The matter was resolved within about 45 seconds! Granted, things won't always work out that way, but it made me conclude that...

New Addington interchange bus link (south east of Croydon)

On a notice at work I saw that it was closed for safety reasons. But I don't know what the safety reasons were unfortunately

    Railway Themed CV

I suppose you could have an image of a track with some ballast as a page border. Maybe a network rail typeface.... Seriously, I've read up on targeted CVs and personally I would put myself in the shoes of the recruiter: I.e., if I had a pile of CVs to review I would appreciate something...

    (Big) Potential Career Change

Hey there J. Late 20's? You've got enough time to forge a career in the railway and go back to medicine if you want. I guess you have to think about why you got into medicine in the first place. If you have a passion for people then the hours of solitude in train driving might not be...

    Awaiting start with TFL

I'm sorry to hear this. I had an interview for this in Dec 19 but was unsuccessful (and out was of my depth in mechanical practical bit!). It's one thing holding candidates where there aren't positions ready but when they re-post the job ad, I think it is unacceptable. It's now up again...

Career Advice Needed - From Cleaner to Train Driver

Personally I think there will be enough experience in the role you already have to put in a shortlistable trainee driver application: (leadership, working under pressure, COSHH, concentration, working unsupervised, emergency situations, etc). If and when you get past the application stage be...
