Cortinas, Cavaliers and successors - where did they go?

ULEZ is about Nox and particulate emissions and nothing to do with CO2. VED is based on CO2, hence petrols tend to pay more than equivalent sized diesels.

    Stonehaven Signalling Observation - Question

Recently travelled from Aberdeen to Stonehaven and back. While waiting for the return trip at Stonehaven, I noticed after a train went through (one in each direction) it was a good 2 minutes before the semaphore signal changed to danger. Not something I’ve ever observed before and was wondering...

3 month old 737-9 Max depressurisation incident

However, I strongly suspect that the maintenance manual would have said to check (along with other areas) all door seals for leaks. I would have thought that a ground based pressurisation run would have found some sort of a leak.

    British Airways

BA 777's currently have 2 in-flight entertainment systems; Thales & Panasonic. The latter is the better system. Up until last year, there were three systems! The other being Rockwell Collins which was very out of date. As far as I'm aware, there are no plans to standardise down to one IFE system.

    Hoover cleaner Lithium battery longevity

My Dyson ( and pretty much everyone else I know who has one) has done the same. Mine only lasted about 3 years as well. I've fitted third party batteries from Amazon, much cheaper and they seem fine. Last longer on one charge as well. To prolong the life of the battery, I've been told to allow...

Is there anyone there without a phone in their hand?!

Five full closures of the M25 in 2024

Looks like a lot of people have taken the warnings on board. At the moment (touch wood) it all looks ok according to Google Maps.

    Gatwick Airport station upgrade

Redhill, Three Bridges AND Haywards Heath obviously! (Not a serious suggestion)

Five full closures of the M25 in 2024

As a shift worker that uses this stretch of the M25 I'm thoroughly looking forward to this! (Not). The first closure only affects me for one day, but I'm not yet sure how I'm going to get around it. Going to be chaos whatever way you go. Fingers crossed the remaining closures are when I'm off...

    What's your latest acquisition?

I resisted these 1st time around. Now I've seen how good they are, I may end up replacing my ageing rake of Hornby 2A's if/when they do another run. Accurascale have hinted in RMWeb about doing Aircon Mk.2s as well. That could get expensive!

Miller & Carter: the lettuce- discuss.

It should be served as a side (it is at my local M&C). I think the idea of it is to 'cleanse your palate' after each mouthful of steak. Not sure how that works in practice though!

20 mph Zones - Extend or Eliminate?

Usually, yes. But what Bletchleyite is getting at is if your revs are too low (ie close to stalling) you will burn more fuel than if you are in a suitable gear. Example, my car (diesel) can be in 5th at 30mph, (revs will be just under 1000rpm) however it is more efficient to be in 4th and rev...

    Thameslink: final state?

Was there supposed to be another service to run between the current Brighton fasts? (Cambridge & Bedford services) Wondering what the reason for these services being at 10 & 20 minute intervals is, seems like there is one missing to make it 6 tph

    Caledonian Sleeper

I thought that when I booked to travel a couple years ago. Chose 11A. Not shown in the diagram above, but there is a bulkhead in front of you meaning there is no footrest and you can't stretch your legs out. (I'm 5ft11) Luckily no one was sat in the seat behind so promptly switched to that one...

    Football

I was at the game today. Hate is a strong word and I don't think the majority hate Moyes, just believe it's time for a change. I know he won us the Conference League, however the football the majority of the time has been dire. Our current league position is not a true reflection of how good we...

    What's your latest acquisition?

Ran the VEP in earlier on this afternoon. Runs well, no issues anywhere on my layout which is always nice. Colour reproduction is fine as far as I can tell, but will weather it up a bit when it gets warmer. Definitely looks the part far better than the previous release. The only gripe, which...

    What's your latest acquisition?

Mines just arrived. Had a quick look and can confirm the motor is in the guards compartment (windows blacked out). It's also pretty damn heavy, so shouldn't have the traction issues of the earlier version. Will have a proper look at it later when I get time and will post some pictures

    Redex

I owned my previous car from 34k to well over 200k miles. Always kept an eye on fuel economy, and obviously it gradually got worse over the years. (Average of 70 mpg gradually reducing to low 60's) I then had a fuel injector issue, and as a last resort to fix it, I dropped the fuel filter...

Comedic "things you would ban": minor things that irritate you

People who use self checkout with a huge juggernaut of shopping and massively overflow the 'basket' area. It must take them so much longer to do it that way and it clogs up a till for ages. (Aware some supermarkets have large areas designed for trollies, but my local Lidl is basket size only)
