    1992 stock Refurbishment?

Hopefully they can do something about the screens being entirely blank for most of the time between stations(!) No reason not to flip between the train destination and next station to give additional reassurance to people that they’re on the right train.

    Pedestrian underpasses and safety/desirability

Well-designed underpasses that increase amenity for pedestrians and cyclists are to be welcomed. Surprisingly the Green Man Roundabout in Leytonstone is a really good example from the 90s: well-lit, wide underpasses with generous corners and entrances/exits on every arm, well used, lots of green...

London CableCar Free for Cyclists ... Why?

I believe it was a token measure during one of the many long outages of the lifts at the Greenwich foot tunnel (where technically cycling is banned, but many people cycle anyway and it is part of NCN 1.) Of course the cable car still isn’t really a viable cycle crossing if you don’t work 9-5...

E-Tickets on dead phones - a possible solution?

Again, I highlight that if you go to SNCF ticket machines, you can simply quote your PNR (booking reference) and the surname in which the booking was made. It will print your ticket, and/or re-send you the email with a PDF and wallet pass. This isn't a question of whether ID needs to be...

E-Tickets on dead phones - a possible solution?

Different people have different makes and models of phone with different software and different battery capacity. Cheaper phones tend to have less battery capacity. Older (especially second- or third-hand) phones typically also run down quicker because batteries chemically age and lose capacity...

E-Tickets on dead phones - a possible solution?

I truly cannot understand the people on this thread who cannot comprehend that a customer who’s already paid for a ticket then having to buy another one at considerable expense is a poor experience that’ll lead to people abandoning the railway. Come on. We’re talking Ryanair levels of customer...

E-Tickets on dead phones - a possible solution?

For reference, if I go to the TGV ticket machines at Gare de Lyon and enter the booking reference and surname for my e-ticket reservation, it will happily print it on the same stock as a freshly bought ticket with zero fuss and zero extra charge. It's not like this is some exotic functionality...

    New Clapham Junction Departure Boards

“Cars” is fine, it’s technically correct for EMUs and most people will understand. If they’re that worried about people whinging about the American terminology they can do “8 x <carriage icon>”. And agreed on not scrolling unless there’s a reason to. Otherwise people just stop until it scrolls...

    New Clapham Junction Departure Boards

Still a spectacular amount of space wasted with scrolling operator name, numbers of carriages, Tube service updates etc. none of which is relevant to the specific train (as opposed to calling points.)

    1992 stock Refurbishment?

Seems very odd to request a derogation for "not announcing destination in stations" seems like such an obvious thing to fix - just cut the 'this station is' announcement down to the minimum, like on the 345s and 710s. Would be a better customer experience too. …unless they literally don't have...

So many announcements, so few people taking them on board

Here's a question: why does this nonsense just keep happening? Are the PIS on these trains just very difficult to configure correctly? Are the TMs and Drivers not given instructions on how to set them up? Or is there some kind of defect? You often find similar issues with stations and train PIS...

Stations rebranded to Great British Railways design / Rail Alphabet 2

At a guess: that looks like it's for staff reference, given its proximity to a signal indicator. "Down" likely refers to the Down direction of the line.

    London Overground line names announced

Similarly to how tube trains all have a red-and-blue Underground livery, yes. We are told PA announcements will be re-recorded, so I assume the line/route names will be displayed on the in-car displays and maybe on the sides of the train.

So many announcements, so few people taking them on board

Quite impressive that they’ve managed to make the text on the display more wordy than the announcements, on a tiny screen with related information not grouped together. Great job guys. Well done.

    London Overground line names announced

This is exactly why they're being given names in the first place, because "No service on the Windrush line" will be much more concise than "No service on London Overground between Highbury & Islington and West Croydon/Crystal Palace/New Cross Gate/Clapham Junction (via Surrey Quays)"...

CONFIRMED - Tube fares frozen until March 2025

We are truly through the looking glass if freezing fares in an ongoing cost of living crisis is somehow a bad thing. And yes, there is be an election coming up. In elections people usually vote for the person whose policies they like the most.

    Modal shift in the suburbs?

You could always do what the Dutch do: rather than going round the houses, (a) run suburban/interurban buses by the most direct route possible, (b) expect people to walk or cycle to the bus stop (including providing bike stands at the stop.) This, however, requires it to be safe to do (b), which...

Yeovil Junction and active travel - non existant.

Hear hear. In this country we are appalling at even delivering a basic level of amenity for anything other than driving, and then bleat about how no-one will ever walk or cycle. In this we're as bad as the US. There is no excuse not to build at least a pavement, and preferably a cycle track, on...

New style for Elizabeth line platform departure screens?

That’s much better. Text height is a bit anaemic but that’s going to be much more useful and immediately understandable, especially when people need to make a quick decision on the platforms.

    1992 stock Refurbishment?

Moquette is great. The announcements definitely need tweaking to trigger just a second or two earlier. I stand by my concern that it's a waste of space/time on the displays to scroll through the announcements verbatim rather than the same information in concise written form. Plenty of space to...
