Do Northern inform failed applicants ?

It took me almost exactly 3 months to hear anything back about my application last year. Don't be too surprised if you don't hear anything for another 6 weeks or so. It doesn't mean you've failed. I applied for Northern as a driver last year before the recruitment portal switched to DB. Back...

    "What it is driver..."

If you read it as "what is it Driver?" Then yes, it sounds like an aggressive question. But in this case it's the start of a statement: "what it is Driver...is that the Queen's bloomers have fallen off the back of the Royal Train and that's why you're being held." Not a question and not...

    Bank Holiday working whilst training

I've not had time off on a bank holiday in 16 years. It's really not a problem. All I was looking for was some clarity as to whether I can make plans over Easter.

    Bank Holiday working whilst training

How early on during classroom are you likely to start going out doing front end turns?

That's more like what I wanted to hear!

    Bank Holiday working whilst training

Thanks for your help. This is the initial classroom rules phase so I thought there would be a more hard and fast rule, either yes or no.

    Bank Holiday working whilst training

I'm due to start as a trainee driver soon. With Northern, if that helps, and I was wondering whether I would be working on the back holidays over the next couple of months. I've asked HR but they seemed to suggest it depends on the individual trainer, which seems a little odd. Can anyone...

    Trainee driver's Carlisle

I'm fairly certain that it's a hard no on that one. The application used to have a YES/NO tick box for whether you lived within the 45 minutes. There was no option for "No but it's only 52". Applications were automatically binned if you said no. Your best bet is probably to wait for Newcastle...

Northern Trainee Train Driver Roles- Various Locations

Northern recruitment have previously told me that they do not accept "application on relocation". As in, if you don't currently live with 45 minutes of the station/depot you're applying to, they will not accept your application even if you tell them you'd be willing to move. Harsh I know. The...

    Northern Recruitment Process

Or you could be me; hear nothing for 3 months and then it's 6 months between first interview and starting training. The whole process will have taken just over 10 months. Not what you want to hear but it really is a, "how long is a piece of string" question.

Northern Trainee Train Driver Roles- Various Locations

I'm waiting for word about another position. I was told 2 weeks back at the start of December. I wouldn't be expecting any word from them until some time next week.

Northern Trainee Train Driver Roles- Various Locations

Sounds great but if it only takes 2 weeks to hear back I'll eat my hat!

    Group Bourdon paper test

Seconded. There are groups of 5 on there too. You'll always be asked to find the groups of 4.

    Northern drivers Newcastle

I'd thoroughly recommend the Travelodge nearby. Get there the night before. Relax, revise, practice and get a good night's sleep. The last thing I'd want is a long journey the morning of the assessments.

Looking for a foot in the door

It very much depends on where you are based and what type of role you're looking for on the railway. Employers will have a recruitment section on their website and most if not all will allow you to register your interest in certain jobs and get an alert when they're looking to recruit. It...

That's great news Mark. I think I may have met you at assessment in Doncaster on 3rd October. I'm still waiting but been told that date is a possibility.
