Transport for Wales - lowest satisfaction rating

HoW had more cancellations due to lack of train crew this week. This year has been abysmal on the HoW line with several stations in the bottom 100 for the UK with regard to service cancellations and delays.

    TfW punctuality

Several stations on the heart of Wales line are in the bottom 100 in the UK with regard to punctuality. It's a rare day when all services run.

HS2 Manchester leg scrapped: what should happen now?

Wales should get it's matched funding. What's left of HS2 is an England only project now.

Transport for Wales - lowest satisfaction rating

The HoW line recently achieved having several stations in the bottom 100 in the UK for reliability. It's not getting better here...

Are there problems on the GWML with the OLE?

I was just on one a couple of weeks ago that was running very slowly between Cardiff and Newport. Eventually it switched back to diesel power.

Heart of Wales - a tatty service in the first place seems so often to be in tatters

I've been keeping an eye on the service, as I'm local and been waiting to get a residents railcard. Finally bought one this week as the service has been pretty much back to normal recently. It's a shame they can't get trains up to one every two hours in the summer as it has a lot of tourist...

Are Transport for Wales rail accountable to anyone?

The Heart of Wales line is back to some sort of service in the last week, so the repaired stock must be coming back into service elsewhere. TFW should improve with the planned investments, but as ever it takes time!

Why are people opposed to HS2? (And other HS2 discussion)

Oh well I suppose I can enjoy more crosscountry trains without enough carriages, air con not working, overcrowded and over priced for years to come. But then again I'm not a banker travelling into London so I don't count. After all the £37 million the DofT turned down to upgrade the Voyager...

Will companies continue to bid for franchises?

Part of the problem is First group putting in stupidly low bids, and then driving out other operators like Virgin that might do a better job. Will First group be around in a few years time ?

DfT: South Western Railway NOT Financially Sustainable

As a passenger I do not want to see guards removed. Too many idiots on trains and not safe without them. First group keep putting in stupid bids and should be held to account. If they can't operate it profitably they shouldn't have taken it on in the first place. Its not as if this hasn't...

Flybe problems - did they take rail improvements into account?

Trouble is that if Flybe go bust, there isn't likely to be another airline to take over. Hence the problem for the government - some of the routes (Newquay springs to mind) are poorly served by road and rail. There is likely to be an economic impact of letting them go bust. If you compare the...

Has anybody ever sued Network Rail or a Train Operator and been successful (for being stranded)?

I used to work in trading standards a few years ago. It was well known that a lot of the terms and conditions were not legally valid. However British Rail and its successors were very careful to prevent them being challenged in court by settling claims to prevent a legal case striking them down...

UK’s railways can no longer cope with the effects of the climate crisis

As someone who experienced the flood of 2007 in Gloucestershire where we ended up without power, mains water or even basic transport for a few days, I can tell you that our infrastructure is a lot less resilient than you might think. Climate change is real, and it will increase the frequency of...

West Coast Partnership: Awarded to First Trenitalia

Great another Carillion fiasco to follow. Give all the franchises to a firm with known financial problems, and sit back and watch it collapse. Oh well will make re-nationalisation easier assuming the Tory headbangers don't get back in....

Keith Williams suggests government should take a back seat in franchising

The simple answer is to look at what works best in other countries. (Hint - it's not privatisation....)

The TaxPayers’ Alliance report on Crossrail 2

They should be renamed the billionaires tax dodgers club. One of a number of neoliberal outfits pretending to represent the public and helping 'form opinions' in the right wing press. Undemocratic and creepy.

Island Line Railway - current state and the future

They could advertise it as the Island's 'Alton Towers' experience ! Awful track quality. Are they still running at 50mph ? If it was a heritage line the ORR would have shut it down by now....

Train felt like it was derailing

The underground stock on the isle of Wight is always a lively ride! I would think its always worth reporting unusually rough riding to network rail. Chances are they already know about it and its within the safety margin - but it could be an indication of a more serious problem developing...

Bristol Airport - what a stupid location!

The problem isn't the location of the airports - the problem is the utter inability of this country to have a joined up transport system. Unless of course a) the proposal makes someone some short term profit or b) its in London and moves bankers around quicker.

BBC: Chris Grayling suggests future rail industry wage rises should be linked to lower CPI, not RPI

The Tories voter base is stuffed full of senile Daily Mail types who will froth at the mouth at the mere mention of 'unions' or the public sector. So all Grayling has to do is keep blaming them or network rail and he keeps his job.
