    York Signalling School

Hi @SassyLou2190, I'm due to start in December also! Although my employment starts tomorrow and it sounds as though I'll be doing some shadowing before training school (I'll know more tomorrow I suppose!) Curtis

    York Signalling School

I was also initially told at interview that it was likely to be January time to start at signalling school but have since been asked if I have any leave booked before then, and double checking my notice period, so who knows! Might see you there! :D

Network rail invite to assesment 2 pending

Great news - good luck! I don't know about questions for track maintenance - hopefully someone else can help! Other than that, dress smart and relax!

Network rail invite to assesment 2 pending

It usually means that you've been selected for an interview (or it does for the Signalling role anyway, I'm assuming that it'll mean the same for all roles).

Great stuff, good idea with the PDF format! Fingers crossed you get an interview now then!

Chaz, I had the same issue and (correctly or not), went with the "trust that the true document appears clean and correctly formatted when it is looked at by HR" option. It hasn't affected anything for me, and I guess we'll never know if it appears correctly on their side, but I imagine they'll...

Thanks @Habitat! You too! Signalling school is most probably going to be early next year for me now, but I'm not in a rush and like you say, time flies!

    A career as a signaller

Applied for 2 x Grade 2 vacancies, the boxes for which are only 5 miles apart. Recently had my interview resulting in being offered the 12m fixed term vacancy which of course I have accepted, and I have also been listed as the reserve for the other permanent role :D A big thanks for all the...

    Customer service medical/drug test screening

Fail the drugs test and you won't be employed. Simple as that. I imagine that no amount of explaining will suffice - whether it was a "one off" or not, they will see you as a drug user and won't want you in a safety critical environment.

    Possible application hindrance?

I've applied for three signaller roles (one is at interview stage) and I also applied for track operative beforehand. Doesn't seem to have hindered me in any way so far!

Ahh, I see. What would this mean in terms of the role itself? Are the hours not guaranteed? :| There is no mention of this before applying, or when looking at the role on the job site.

Does anyone know what the "GPR" & "RDR" refers to, as seen in the above image?

    A career as a signaller

I made the mistake of trying to complete my online tests whilst in company with my 7 year old twin girls.... stressful doesn't begin to cut it! I did manage to complete them with a few seconds to spare on each, and luckily passed!

Thanks - I'd best do some maths  Welcome - keep at it, we'll get there eventually!

    A career as a signaller

I have just completed (and met the benchmark) on my online assessments for Signaller (Grade 2 - Knottingley). Quick question regarding salary as I need to know if it will definitely be viable for me (due to extra commuting times etc). It states salary is £27,705 - in anyone elses experience...

Operative, Off Track - Knottingley, Leeds

I got to online assessment stage and then received an email a few days later stating a more suitable candidate was identified. Ahh well, back to keeping my focus on any signaller vacancies now! Still - it's good to know what the off-track operative role entails for future reference!

I was thinking the same. Sounds very counter productive and a waste of resources. Perhaps it's to cover for existing staff with a view to moving you elsewhere afterwards?
