Things in living memory which seem very anachronistic now

I found one of these when removing our kitchen - must have been from our house's previous owner. We'd only been using those outside lights for 6 years :s

    On the Workbench...

Nice job on the McEwans! But, no, not through piped or vacuum braked. Freighter braked like the opens (apparently - working from : https://www.rmweb.co.uk/forums/topic/192731-ex-sr-12t-vans-how-longmany-remained-unfitted/?do=findComment&comment=5842576)

Things in living memory which seem very anachronistic now

In fairness, swimming in PJs is still a very common swimming drill (as it trains you for falling in water clothed). Not sure about the picking up the brick when doing it!

Things in living memory which seem very anachronistic now

Even in the early 90s (boys' school again), if you forgot your trunks, swimming was in the nip as well...

And also the lesser seen 15A round pin plug (we had an immersion heater with one of these until relatively recently...)

    On the Workbench...

I've been chipping away at this unfitted, ex-SR diagram 1455 12 tonner. For the van nerds, note double V hangers both sides for the "freighter braked" version... I can't quite decide if it's quite right, though it needs an airbrushing of frame dirt down below and a waft all over which might tie...

    2025 Models

I mean, it looks amazing, and absolutely in my era and area (the BoB/WC class that used to run in my area of interest were from Stewart's Lane, Bricklayers Arms and Brighton sheds - both rebuilt and unrebuilt... narrow/wide cabs, 4500/5500G tenders, the lot... though none of their names they...

Can 3 lens signals display preliminary caution?

From the route video above, they actually look to be on the level (or at least were) - they were positioned right on the join between the river bridge and the bridge over Grosvenor Rd before the falling gradient into the terminus.

    What's your latest acquisition?

Yes, they are the new tooling as well, and yes, somewhat pricey! The alternative at the moment though is the Comet brass kits (which are probably about the same price, but more work!) but for the Bulleids they do offer pretty much every diagram you might ever desire.. (I have my eye on a couple...

Can 3 lens signals display preliminary caution?

My memory isn't so bad then! Here's a cab ride video from 1990 (Horsham - Victoria) showing the Y-R-Y signals (at 1:04:06). EDIT: Here's a slightly more modern (but pre-LED replacements) - a Gatwick to Victoria cab ride, VC536 at 32:30:

    What's your latest acquisition?

I believe there are some due out maybe next year from Bachmann in Maroon. I've seen a W/W numbered (Comp Corr 10" vents) and E/S numbered ones (Second Open 15" vents) listed.

    What's your latest acquisition?

Yes - the Bulleids landed up with the somewhat odd Sc prefixes and S suffix numbers, and there were also some with E/S numbering.

Can 3 lens signals display preliminary caution?

On the approaches to London Victoria, on Grosvenor Railway Bridge, I seem to recall from the distant past three aspect signals with Y-R-Y, leading up to R-Y as the final signal before platform. Am I misremembering?

Very nice - Rule 1 my friend, Rule 1!

Collision with tractor near Leominster (22/05/25)

Kinetic energy is proportional to the square of the speed, so between 90 and 125, you have an increase in KE of 92.9%. The work done in stopping an object is equal to force x distance, and this equals the kinetic energy of the object. So, to stop in the same distance from 125 compared to 90...

Collision with tractor near Leominster (22/05/25)

BBC currently report one passenger airlifted to hospital, but injuries not thought to be life-threatening, and one woman taken to hospital with injuries not believed to be serious. The rest discharged at the scene. From https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/cly3885e58no: The trailer looks...

    Examples of unique level crossings?

Yes - there are two bridleways from Sutton Courtenay that lead onto the road on the west side and go past Appleford Sidings. Of note, any train leaving the sidings needs to cross the level crossing in the Didcot direction on the (usually) Oxford bound line. (Slightly OT: Openstreetmap has Up...

    Examples of unique level crossings?

Appleford is probably the one based upon description, but it's not pump these days. Gates usually down with wigwag lights off and plunger request to cross. Video here:
