Trivia: which railway station is furthest from the town it serves?

Thirsk's is in a village quite a far way from the town itself.

FANTASY: You're in charge of your own Open Access operator.

My operator would be called "NorthWestern" and would operate transpennine services to places not currently served by TPE. It would have a stock of 16 DMUs, consisting of 14 class 170s and 2 class 185s. There would be two routes served: York - Leeds - Bradford - Dewsbury - Halifax - Manchester...

Cross Country's capacity issues: how could they be solved?

I mean, many companies are ditching their HSTs which - being locos - have the possibility for much higher capacity than the 220/221s. They should try to buy some and sell off some of the 220/221s to increase it. The HSTs should also be used at peak times imo.

Should LNER have withdrawn HSTs first?

Oh yeah I forgot about Hull lol

Unnecessarily long bus routes in the UK

The X46 is the quickest public transport link into East Yorkshire from York, but my God it takes forever. Imo, they should bring back the rail line from York to Beverley and put 158s on it to replace this ridiculous bus route.

Should LNER have withdrawn HSTs first?

Where do they run that ain't electrified?

Should LNER have withdrawn HSTs first?

As far as I know a. LNER only run on electrified routes anyway and b. The 91s accelerate quicker than the 43s.

    First Bus

Good riddance. First buses are shabby and overpriced

Should LNER have withdrawn HSTs first?

Mod Note: Posts #1 - #16 originally in this thread. Wouldn't it be more logical to get rid of the 43s first?

New trains for East Midlands Franchise

Most of the DMUs I've used with a top speed of 75 mph are crap for other reasons aswell (no air con, uncomfortable, old and antiquated, not enough upgrades)

Tramways: Which towns and cities would benefit most?

Leeds and possibly York. Leeds simply inherently deserves one as it's the largest city in Europe without such a system. Could run several routes into the town centre from surrounding suburbs, towns and cities (most obvious one being Bradford). I could also see the trams running underground in...

TfW to operate Class 37s on the Rhymney Line

Because they date back to when Steam trains were still in use.

New trains for East Midlands Franchise

Aren't they just getting replaced with Sprinters? I certainly wouldn't see that as an upgrade...

TfW to operate Class 37s on the Rhymney Line

Course they're better than the Pacers, but they date back to when steam trains were still in use. Nevertheless, I'd have them over the 142s, 143s, 144s and 150s any day!

I heard that ticket prices were now increasing.

New trains for East Midlands Franchise

Aw, I like the HSTs and 222s. I'm extremely annoyed that Abellio have taken over East Midlands, now things are gonna be way more expensive and they're getting rid of the good trains. Damn it <(
