    Labour's Plan for buses

Since getting my senior free pass I have been using the buses a lot more here in the Medway towns for local journeys while leaving my car at home more. The issue is that my local service is unreliablr, sparse in the afternoons and non-existent in the evening s and on Sundays. Several times in...

    Island Line Class 484 Reliability

I read that GWR had bought them as a job lot from Vivarail’s liquidator.

Could SWR obtain original equipment from GWR and return the Island Line 484s to standard?

Moderator note: Split from https://www.railforums.co.uk/threads/island-line-class-484-reliability.263329/ Given that GWR has purchased the unconverted stock of D78s, maybe the best thing for SWR to do would be to get 20-30 sets of original equipment from GWR and return them to as built D78 LT...

A scam phone calls and emails discussion.

I think that the call centres are getting wise to people not answering strange numbers. The two most recent on our landline have the same local area code that we are on. I didn't pick up either but the second went to BT voicemail and was a cxharge to your credit card scam.

SWR Class 458 to be retained

Maybe one of thge reason for the lesser recovery on the Portsmouth Direct is the terrible seats in the 450 trains.

Why doesn't the 17:45 Portsmouth Harbour to London Waterloo stop at Clapham Junction?

I have a similar problem in the oposite direction. I travel from Kent to Portsmouth via Victoria so it would be helpful to me to join the Monday to Friday 07:30 Waterloo to Portsmouth Harbour but it doesn't stop so I have to get an earlier train and change at Woking or Guildford. The alternative...

    This is a scam, right?

It surprises me that GWR haven't taken out some form of injunction agains Facebook for facilitating impersonation.

    Island Line Class 484 Reliability

There is another relevant point about long welded rails. They need sufficient good quality ballast to hold the track in place in spite of thermal changes. Traditionally on the Island ballast hes been neither good quality nor present in sufficient quantities. I'm sure that some new ballast was...

    Island Line Class 484 Reliability

Given that GWR has a large number of D78 behicles in store you'd thing that the two First Group companies could do a deal to keep Island Line running.

    Island Line Class 484 Reliability

Both the previous iterations of ex-LT stock had wheel problems in their early days on the Island. Possibly these derived from differing stands between LT and BR. Have the lessons learned been forgotten?

Well, as expected Messrs Faceboook are happy to continue to receive income from the scammers.

Southern timetable changes consultation Coastway West

If this happens I hope that Southern will look at their Advance tickets policy. Currently they don't allow the use of SWR connections from Portsmouth Harbour to Portsmouth & Southsea. If some are turning round at Fratton this issue will be amplified, especially as Fratton isn't (as far as i am...

Introducing RailUK Tickets - support the forum when booking your rail tickets!

I generally use the forum's ticket site these days although I occasionally have to use others for reasons that I won't go into now. I prefer to collect my tickets TOD so always print out my itinerary, either the email or by printing the booking confirmation screen from my PC. Having printed...

List - Heritage Railways Operation Railcars

None of this exact type (Built by Park Royal) survive there are four railbuses of the German built Waggon und Maschinenbau type and two of the A C Cars type. Of these 6 I think that only two are opertional, one each at the Ribble Steam railway and at the Worth Vallley Railway. You can find a lot...

    Highest-capacity preserved train

On the Isle of Wight the standard service train, bogie set of 5, has 360 seats and runs virtually all operating days May to September. In the shoulder seasons it tends to be reduced to 4 carriages to allow for maintenance. We have run a 6 coach set which seats 400 but it is too long to run round...
