When is a child, not a child?

A suggestion that I would make is that a child fare should be charged if the child does not take up a seat.

When is a child, not a child?

Where I used to live, there was an estate where kids on one side of the road had a free bus pass, whereas the other side didn’t. Lead to some very disgruntled students, who had to pay and others didn’t.

What happened to the new TFWM red bus livery?

The WM Bus livery concept I think is rather ill thought out. Unless TfWM are going to pay for the respraying of vehicles themselves, no operator will want to to this. Also, this is a problem, especially for smaller operators who can’t afford to have vehicles off the road.

When is a child, not a child?

In the West Midlands, a child fare is up to 18, provided that the relevant photocard is shown. If a card isn’t shown, then the full adult fare should be charged.

    Bus Doors Jamming?

Releasing the handbrake when the bus is kneeled causes the bus to raise again. Saves having to press the button. Also stops you driving around with the bus kneeled

    Arriva Ticketer fare oddity

Some operators actively charge lower prices for fares that are paid by contactless. I guess, it’s to encourage more use of contactless payments. Similarly, in the West Midlands, tickets bought on Swift PAYG are cheaper.

    ‘Via’, ‘Then’, ‘For’

Not anymore. Blinds were changed a few months ago, and there’s now no indication that the bus continues to Hanley/Shrewsbury.

    Rules on uniform

With regards to uniform as a whole, I think it plays an important part in portraying a quality and professional image to the customer. Think of it like this: what image does the operator show if their driver is wearing jeans and a t shirt, or a smart company uniform? All too often, I have...

Will the Covid-pandemic hasten the demise of printed timetables and route maps?

To be honest, I can’t see many operators/local authorities producing printed timetables to put on display anymore. Not because of the risk of Covid, but simply due to the fact that most people use their phones etc to access information. Even nowadays, the elderly population are becoming more...

    Ramps, access, wheelchairs and buggies.

Yes, the bus cannot be used in service if the ramp does not work. It’s part of the first use check, so are checked every day. This includes the electric lifts on coaches.

Low floor bus vs step entrance bus/coach: which is better for rural routes?

Just curious as to when this was, and what vehicle type was used? Having been born and bred in Stagecoach Bluebird land, I frequently travelled on coaches. Not only on rural/country services, but on local town services as well. With regards to wheelchair lifts, I was once travelling on the 35...
