Comedic "things you would ban": minor things that irritate you

Yes, agreed. I've had green Stella Artois in Orlando on St Patrick's day!

    West Highland Line coach numbering

Pleasure, enjoy your trip :). When we came back from oban, there wasn't any catering until crianlarich were it joined to the fort william portion. It maybe worthwhile taking some snacks/drinks with you for the return journey.

    West Highland Line coach numbering

Yes, but from Glasgow it is in combination with the fort william/mallaig portion (2 coaches) which splits at crianlarach. We're just back from oban and our reservation was in coach d, which was the last coach in a 2 car set from oban. :)

Scots Gov wants to remove bus passes for anti-social behaviour

That's exactly what I meant when I said who would catch them! I moaned to the driver about kids vaping on the bus, all I was told was report it! Nothing was done. There is just so much antisocial behaviour nowadays it would be a full time job, probably for a team of people just for one city...

Scots Gov wants to remove bus passes for anti-social behaviour

Great idea, I really would welcome it, but how would they catch the people who are offending!

Perceptions vs experiences of crime and anti-social behaviour on public transport in the UK

I don't think so because what would the punishment be? How can you fine someone if they don't have any money? Giving them community service, well they just wouldn't do it because they are just so lazy that they wouldn't be able to get out of bed in the morning. Custodial sentence? They will...

Perceptions vs experiences of crime and anti-social behaviour on public transport in the UK

For me it's the local city bus service. In general passengers, all ages, don't care about anything, they do what they want because the know that they won't get reported, and if they do nothing will be done about it. It all appears to be due to a sense of entitlement that they can do what they...

    Empire Builder - Amtrak

Just did this two weeks ago. We did Seattle to Chicago, it was 1 1/2 hours late leaving Seattle and lost another 3 hrs overnight due to a broken rail. Get a room, totally private, own wc and shower. One can do what one wants, look out the window, read a book. Meals are very good. One gets a...

Things in living memory which seem very anachronistic now

I don't do this anymore since I was told by a woman that I had held the door open for "that I'm perfectly capable of opening the door myself". What did I do wrong? :( 1728464266 Only do it for blokes now. They don't seem to mind!

    Amaranthe's Random Trips

Yes, this has been going on for decades. I used to travel from Dundee to Lincoln regularly in 1990s -2000s and there would be a ticket check after Edinburgh, but before Berwick, that was it until I got off either at York/Doncaster. One day I head a guy on a phone boasting about this, that he...

    Amaranthe's Random Trips

On the local news they were boasting that they had re-opened something like another 9 premises on Union Street! I was up there around two weeks ago, never noticed the difference! fyi, old Aberdeen, up near the Uni, has some stunning buildings, not forgetting Marischal College. I remember...

    Amaranthe's Random Trips

Yes, good idea! Ross Bakery on Chapel Street is still there, visited a couple of weeks ago! Prince of Wales hasn't changed, still two Wetherspoon pubs on Union Street. However I'm sure you'll have your favourites :-). According to the BBC weather it looks like it'll be a good day for it...

Service charges in the Hospitality industry

Yes, nowadays, I always check the bill for a service charge. I give the staff an option to remove it, if they do they get a good tip, always greater than the service charge, if they don't then no tip. In my view it's just another hidden tax or more money for the owner. I have asked staff in a...

    The Hatfield Rail Crash aftermath

This is not too bad a video on youtube that explains stuff quite well: Long story short, a crack or cracks grew to their critical crack length causing catastrophic failure and the rail collapsed!

A discussion about falling birth rates in various parts of the world

This is really interesting stuff. Do you have any references for these figures?
