I don't know - didn't see it pass through the signal.

Is this what you call a SPAD?

A few minutes ago the photo is of a freight train at Canonbury Station on the London overground, platform 3 westbound, with the front of the train around 10 metres beyond the signal at red.

Trainline offering Network card discounts before 10am

For completeness: I got to Gatwick this morning at 07:25am, and as expected the ticket was rejected by the gates. I showed it to the barrier staff, and they waved me through after no more than a quick glance at it. Ticket was not checked on either train. Arriving at Basingstoke at around 08:48...

Trainline offering Network card discounts before 10am

I suspect this is the reality. I'm flying back in to Gatwick, and will be able to get the 07:37am train if my flight is not delayed. But if it is delayed I think I'll either wait until 10am, or buy a fresh new ticket on my own. Thanks all for your replies - all makes sense.

In the evening on last Monday I went onto the TrainLine.com website to purchase a return ticket from Basingstoke to Gatwick Airport, leaving that evening, and returning a week later at around 07:30am. I put the details into the search page, adding the fact that I have a network railcard. From...

    Unusual objects carried onto trains

My father and I took a full-sized grandfather's clock on the Glasgow-Euston sleeper in 1980. Yes it was quite bulky. But at least we always knew when the train was ontime..

    "Boarding" and "alighting"

The caption for a newspaper photo of a burning double-decker bus in last year's London riots made me chuckle. It was: "Alight here.." :)

    Virgin First Class lounges

I don't think that's quite right. http://www.virgintrains.co.uk/routes-stations/first-class-lounges says: This does not say the ticket has to be valid for a journey taken from Euston, merely that it has to be valid. I might be taking a private jet up to scotland and want to make the...

    Virgin First Class lounges

That's given me an idea for getting a place to work if you are in London or another Virgin-lounge-located city: 1. Log onto www.virgintrains.com (using your phone) and purchase a "First Anytime Day Single" from Edinburgh Waverley to Edinburgh Haymarket, selecting a train departing on the same...
