    Eurostar and the virus

I'm currently on an Eurostar service from Paris. Between them, coaches 14, 15 and 16 (the three Standard/Business Premier coaches at the rear) have 3 passengers between them. While I'm sure that business travel is the worst-hit sector (the Business Premier lounge was shut- it would have been...

Routing people via circuitous routes to avoid rail replacement buses

Setting the fast buses to pass (but not call at) Gomshall should work. This would make the routeing work, while not affecting public-facing timetables.

    80s TVM at Leeds

Machines based on the same principle are still used on the Dresden tram network. Which made a wonderful surprise after an evening out there- the sound of the coin slot opening was exactly as I remember it.

I think you went to the same school as me!

New Chiltern Railways website and booking engine

The problem with Mixing Deck is that most admin tasks are done by each TOC, rather than by a central support team. That leads to inconsistency between TOCs as they vary in terms of how pro-active they are at keeping on top of any new stations, routes descriptions and ticket types that are created.

    Edinburgh Days Out travel pass

There is no booking office. I stayed at a hotel by the station this summer, and every time I travelled from there, there was a member of staff selling tickets from a portable machine by the barriers on the Waverley-bound platform.

Oyster peculiarity (2x maximum fares charged)

I suspect that rather than refund everything, they'll add the missing touch-out and touch-in, so you'll be refunded the difference between the two maximum fares and the two correct fares for the journey- so 2 x £5.40 - 2 x £2.10 = £6.60 refund. They're pretty good- I tapped in out of habit at...

London to Oxford on Saturday: are Chiltern strengthening?

I gather there are a few extra loco-hauled services each way between London and Birmingham, presumably to cover stock that is being utilised to strengthen Oxford services.

[DE] Disruption upper Rhine Valley caused by Tunneling works

Great. I'm due to go that way in 10 days or so.

Best place in Scotland for a deep fried Mars bar?

The Carron Fish Bar in Stonehaven claim to be the inventors of the um, 'delicacy'.

GTR Southern Shere TVMs being replaced by Scheidt & Bachmann TVMs.

When it comes to S&B, my experience is that the S rhymes with '****e' for a reason.

Weekend 1st upgrade with standard priv

Yes, on board is fine (subject to seats being available). It's £20 each way. Though the guard might see the Priv and forget to charge you, as he is so busy. ;)

The future for Chiltern's Class 121 "bubble car" units?

Not sure about today, but it was running just fine yesterday evening.

    VTWC Coach K single seats

10:07 Euston to Lime Street is the last service that goes the usual route today (later services are extensions of the xx:00 Euston to Piccadilly services, so take about an hour longer). Needless to say, it's pretty rammed. I've just boarded at Stafford, and walked the full length of First...

Northern complimentary ticket - optimum Cumbrian Coast destination?

The Prince of Wales is fantastic. They do good value accommodation too- the breakfasts fill you up rightly for a day's drinking. The Manor Arms in Broughton is pretty good too. I've walked to Broughton/Foxfield from Bootle station before, which was a good way to build up a thirst.

Could a Sleeper service run to Wick?

Has anyone considered putting hammocks in a District Line set, powered by a Transit van engine?

Odd (and I think stupid) routing through Swindon station

It has droplights. What more do you want, a slip coach? :D

Best Route: Maida Vale to St. Pancras

The Met Line trains are also usually quieter- I'll wait for one over a Circle/H&C service, as long as the extra wait isn't ridiculous.
