    Incident at Holland Park

But as you can see in the video, the doors at each end of the carriage are not a quick, practical or safe way to exit the carriage in an emergency. What were the passengers supposed to have done if there had been immediate cause to get out of the carriage - such as an actual fire - and no member...

Looking for lines with jointed track...

Is the line between Grove Park and Bromley North still jointed? It definitely was when I was living in Bromley in 2008.

    Class 458/5

Very interesting to see a photo of the new cab. It really needs some sort of valence to cover the lower sides for a more balanced shape. The paint job meanwhile doesn't harmonise brilliantly with the form of the cab. The yellow colour spills out slightly over the sides, which works perfectly...

    Class 458/5

Not very attractive, but functional. We will have to wait to see it in person to judge.

Are you sure? Have a look at the photo in this link: http://ow.ly/i/1Urrz They seem to have retained what you call the ribbon glazing.

    Waterloo to Reading EMUs

Also does anybody know what kind of steam locomotives and carriages were used on the Waterloo-Reading line immediately before electrification?

    Pendolino seat query

This thread caught my interest as I'm booking with Virgin Trains for the first time today. Why don't they offer the ability to choose your seat manually online, the way that East Coast Trains do? Edit: I would have thought a private company would offer more bells and whistles than a...

    Richmond station (London) canopies

I thought it would be interesting to post an update on the canopy works at Richmond. Here's a photo I took this morning: You can see they're almost done with platforms 1 and 2. They're using timber to match the old valances, though it appears to be long panels with precut grooves rather than...

    Richmond station (London) canopies

I also noticed the bit about Victoria and London Bridge, and thought it was odd. It seems that the bulk of the lengthening will be in the tunnel on the west side – I guess the platforms will have to be pretty narrow as there's not much space in there. However longer trains is definitely good news.

    Richmond station (London) canopies

The 1930s SR canopies at Richmond Station are in the process of being modified. Most of the wooden valances have now been stripped off, which is odd as they weren't rotten, just in need of a repaint. I'm a bit concerned that NR will be replacing these with modern corrugated steel or...
