    What Camera??

A very good, independent (i.e. Non-Manufacturer or Retail Outlet influenced) website is www.dpreview.com, which I would recommend anyone read to get a good un-biased opinion. In any case let us know what you finally decide on!

Cheapest way to build a railway - and options for HS2 crossing cities

In answer to your thoughts and having had the benefit of working on Crossrail, (and working closely for the last two years with Structural and Civil Engineers (those who build above and those who build below the ground for people that are unaware of the difference), Architects, Quantity...

    Anyone been on a Javelin?

Train didn't wobble either down to FKC or back tonight - Looks like they're getting on top of the lateral movement issue!

The 1st Hornby loco you ever got

That's the wonderful thing about having a son - You can legitimately buy presents that 'your son wants' / spend time bonding with your son as opposed to going shopping etc... Works for me!

    Mainline stations without road access

It is a Private Estate with barriers, although all up and un-manned today. Reason they're un-manned is they have ANPR cameras recording every number plate of every vehicle entering and leaving the estate, so guess they can shut the place at any time they wish. On that basis I guess it doesn't...

    Mainline stations without road access

I think you can walk out of the locality and presumably get a taxi out, but as far as I'm still aware you can't drive in. (Interestingly there's a clip on John Betjeman's "Metro-Land" on the same subject).

    What Camera??

NorthernRail, A DSLR if you can afford it, I started off with a Canon 350D. If you can't afford to buy brand new, has a friend (you can trust!) got one he's getting rid of? Otherwise compact cameras, unless you're going to spend a lot of money (i.e. the same as a budget DSLR) not really man...

    Chiltern railways Oyster card deal

Thinking about this the only reason they would close the line is for un-planned maintenance work i.e. if the Tesco Tunnel at GER were to collapse again(!) I think it's the Sale of Goods Act that covers this, but am very willing to be corrected otherwise, that states the TOC must get you home...

    Anyone been on a Javelin?

Used the Javelin for the first time the other day - Really impressed with the speed and acceleration of it. This is what all domestic services should be like. Downside was a noticeable lateral movement in lead carriage but aware that Hitachi engineers are looking at a fix. Slightly surprised to...

    Mainline stations without road access

Slightly off thread as now an LU station only (Chiltern non-stops) but Moor Park on the Met line cannot be accessed by the great unwashed as part of a gated community. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Moor_Park,_Hertfordshire
