    Virgin rail 'bullies'

On what authority do you speak?

    Virgin rail 'bullies'

Apparently not. You might want to check a few other threads to note the degree of passenger solidarity. Half a dozen highly vocal ticket inspectors does not denote 'everyone' no matter how hard you wish.

    The chaos of Kings Cross

Comparisons with peak price might not be very revealing. Companies have a virtually captive commuter market paying upfront, mostly, for their tickets and predictable years ahead. Without trawling every commuter line for extreme cases I'd suggest it's a mixed bag with routes like mailman's not...

    Virgin rail 'bullies'

There are systematic problems, I agree. Few are insoluble. So far as arguing with those in the industry they appear to be both partial and overbearing in their judgements and their language in describing customers, provocative. Now we could say that's because they face the reality of making the...

    Virgin rail 'bullies'

On the contrary, I seem to be in full agreement with almost every regular passenger and totally out of kilter with those paid by the privatised industry, or at least its mouthpieces on this board. One of the marks of trolling as you'll know is to make contentious or provocative statements and...

    The chaos of Kings Cross

That's an interesting point and one I agree with. My BiL breathed a sigh of relief the day he no longer had to use south eastern trains and could work from home. At some point government will have to address the overall financial hardship to the country of not subsidising the essential commuter...

    Stafford Station any good

The historical reasons for the ransacking of WCML stations I'm not sure about. Electrification may have played a part but the Midland Region of the 60s certainly set about demolition with an uncommon gusto not seen to the same extent on ECML and elsewhere. I agree efficiency must come first...

    Humour, I always recognise.

    Stafford Station any good

Crikey! That shows the reluctance with which I visit Stafford voluntarily. I was once told Stafford was a watering hole for Glaswegians heading to London by train. I've no idea of its veracity but break of journey restrictions must have killed it if it was ever true.

The mods have recommended the report button, I think leaving posts up is more revealing.

You said: "2. Without the subsidy, the cost of tickets would be higher. You agree that?" Without 'the' subsidy, not a subsidy. As BR ran a service at a fraction of the tax payer's input given to the TOCs we can assume neither passenger nor taxation value for money is the current priority.

    Stafford Station any good

True. From Euston north the WCML is a lesson in 1960s brutalist architecture. Stafford's only redeeming feature is there's a Titanic pub less than 100 yds away (or was last time I visited).

Locos who passed before their time

Indeed. An object lesson in what happens to logic when governments get the bit between their teeth.

    Virgin rail 'bullies'

Well if we're in the name calling racket we might open up the conversation to your opinion about where teenage girls put their legs with the innuendo in which you framed it but I'd prefer not to go there as you're a company employee. There are worse names than troll. 1) Absolutely. 2) Rubbish...

    Virgin rail 'bullies'

Theoretically a TOC could advertise 'anywhere for a quid' days and still not hit the bankruptcy courts. The fact a few eager, time flexible types can access them has little bearing on the cost of commuting, for example. I do believe cheap tickets are a 'catch penny' as my father used to say...

    The chaos of Kings Cross

If a service can only be judged on the performance of its current operator presumably improvements can be deferred indefinitely if they fall outside the duration of the franchise? As some routes have changed vinyls any number of times on the same multiple unit there is as you say no compunction...

Locos who passed before their time

The Class 14 and 17 both had issues IIRC. I was thinking of very successful types that met the cutter's torch in spite of their usefulness.

    The chaos of Kings Cross

    I totally agree.
