CAF Civity for TfW: News and updates on introduction.

Fair enough. I hadnt checked earlier on. But yes I agree about the 1830 ex Manchester. Ive not used that one since 2022 before it was split from being a Carmarthen service but have used it many times over the years and was always busy as a 2 car (particularly between Manchester-Shrewsbury)

Ex LNER (and Grand Central) Mark 4 sets for TfW

Thanks for confirming that. I hadnt checked RTT in great detail much this week aside from today. Yes not too bad this week. And hopefully 197s will cover the missing ones tomorrow rather than 150s!

Ex LNER (and Grand Central) Mark 4 sets for TfW

Correct me if im wrong but apart from Monday have all 4 MK4 diagrams been covered this week? Not including the Swansea starter of course which is booked 197. Quite good progress considering there were several days recently there were 3 of the 4 booked diagrams. 1714155642 Oh dear. So we have...

TfW 15x/17x withdrawals (17x now finished)

Whats happening with the 150 withdrawals? And what sort of timescale are we looking at? There seems to be very few 150s booked outside of the Valley Lines now.

TFW Advance Tickets - South Wales to Manchester

I saw them on the TFW website. And yes the advances tend to go in tiers - Id be amazed if all the cheaper prices had sold out as soon as tickets went on there so why are they only putting the highest price tier. I believe the only other fare available for this journey other than advances is the...

Ex LNER (and Grand Central) Mark 4 sets for TfW

TFW posted on X/Twitter that the following services are units today 05:30 Holyhead to Cardiff 10:52 Cardiff to Manchester 14:30 Manchester to Cardiff 18:55 Cardiff to Manchester Any reason for such poor availability of the MK4's its becoming very regular again recently.

TFW Advance Tickets - South Wales to Manchester

I dont understand why people find the concept of advance tickets so difficult to understand. It says quite clearly it is only valid on the booked train and you must not start, end or break and resume your journey at any point other than to use valid connecting trains.

TFW Advance Tickets - South Wales to Manchester

Yes. But its a bit of a lottery whether a MK4 turns up. Last Sunday this service was a 2 car 150! Ouch! 1713731875 Could also say why pay an extra 20p when i have more flexibility to get whatever train I choose. If something happened on the day and i needed to go later for example. I wouldnt...

CAF Civity for TfW: News and updates on introduction.

I wonder if TFW are going to prioritise having 5 car 197s on the Swansea to Manchesters over having the 197s on Pembroke diagrams. Swanline is also waiting for 197s (not including the few that are already booked 197 of course)

Could depend if there is enough 197s to operate Pembroke Dock services. With them doing Maesteg and Ebbw Vale now as well the fleet is being stretched to its limit. We really need the remaining 3 car 197s in service asap!

The 10xx Swansea-Machester is a MK4 today, unsure which one but it was late when I saw it passing.

TFW Advance Tickets - South Wales to Manchester

Im pretty sure passengers who are not members of this forum/enthusiasts would notice fares being so expensive if they travelled regularly or even a few times a year. Also the fares are not in proportion to the length of journey - e.g. i could get a day return from Neath to Cardiff for around...

TFW Advance Tickets - South Wales to Manchester

Off peak but still valid before 930am and between 4pm-630pm unlike when i travel to Neath or PT to Cardiff on a weekday and have to pay extra to travel before 9.30am and between 4pm-6.30pm. I dont get why they call it off peak not anytime as you can travel on any train I assume? i wouldnt go...

CAF Civity for TfW: News and updates on introduction.

I travelled to Cardiff today. What was interesting was my return journey 1805 Cardiff to Milford Haven was formed of 197111 which was what was covering the MK4 on the 1430 MAN CDF. It might as well have been a Manchester to Milford journey today. I wonder if any through passengers had to...

TFW Advance Tickets - South Wales to Manchester

there are no reservations anyway. So its possible even with an advance ticket to be standing. Its happened to me. Not for a while though.

TFW Advance Tickets - South Wales to Manchester

Its good for the TOC but not so good for customers. When you have to spend over £100 on a ticket saving £1 is neither here or there really. Especially as you still have massive restrictions with advance tickets. if my plans were to change between now and the end of May and for some reason I...

TFW Advance Tickets - South Wales to Manchester

There is little point offering advance singles that work out less than £1 cheaper for the out and return journey than the off peak return. The only way it would work out well is if someone was just making a single journey and using alternative transport back. Or if a cheap advance could be...

TFW Advance Tickets - South Wales to Manchester

Thank you for your replies. I did wonder if it being a Bank Holiday weekend would have some impact. I am looking to travel on the Friday which doesnt have a diversion via Chester yet still has very expensive advance tickets. Return on the Sunday which does have the diversion via Chester. But...
