Tyne & Wear Metro Fleet Replacement: Awarded to Stadler

I imagine space is going to be quite limited and there is many metrocars that look almost certain won't be seeing service again.

Tyne & Wear Metro Fleet Replacement: Awarded to Stadler

So the plan has been if new units come in old units will be lesving for scrap, any hints this may happen this week once the 2 new sets arrive?

Metrocar updates and withdrawals - Tyne & Wear Metro

Apart from 79, going by what Phil is saying I would say all those are at least stored and not currently operational.

Metrocar updates and withdrawals - Tyne & Wear Metro

Those units I didn't see on my last visit(January) up there either. 4033, 4072 and 4088 I've definitely not seen for a while and 33 was seen in the depot with the pantograph down.

Metrocar updates and withdrawals - Tyne & Wear Metro

Any updates on the list in the OP, Dan? I suspect it will be looking even more colourful than it already is and we are still no where near the first train entering service.

Metrocar updates and withdrawals - Tyne & Wear Metro

Interesting update, wonder if this means we may see some going for scrap now? I also wonder if they were moved under their own power or by a battery loco.

Tyne & Wear Metro Fleet Replacement: Awarded to Stadler

Although Nexus have said the units currently on Tyneside won't be sent back to Switzerland, the fact it was even mentioned would tell me it was a possibility that could of happened. Either way until we see any signs of daylight testing then I have my doubts we will see see these units in...

    Derailment near Grange Over Sands

Dragged by the looks of it by 195s that are trapped in Barrow at the moment so they were not going to Ulverston under their own power.

    Workington bridge closed? (29/02/2024)

If I remember rightly the last time Heatons 156s were "trapped" in the north west from the derailment on the Tyne valley line , the 156 that is out on the late Cumbrian coast to Preston diagram gets swopped with a Manchester based 156 the next day. The Heaton 156 may of even done a...

Tyne & Wear Metro Fleet Replacement: Awarded to Stadler

I've no doubt the quality especially for drivers will be quite high but let's face facts here, the new fleet has not done any significant testing with the day to day service so we don't fully know if anything unexpected might pop up when that does happen. Secondly we don't know the reliability...

Metrocar updates and withdrawals - Tyne & Wear Metro

Was up in the region last week I saw 4033/4072 in the sidings along with 4071 all with the pans down. I don't think 4072 has been in service much in recent times and 4033 seems to alluded me on the last couple of visits so I suspect this may of been out of action for a while. Out of all the...

Tyne & Wear Metro Fleet Replacement: Awarded to Stadler

Just an opinion and besides it's probably be one of things that will get mentioned when they do come into service. To be fair from my observations people still stand even when there are seats available because some people don't like sitting next to strangers but it will be interesting how it...

Tyne & Wear Metro Fleet Replacement: Awarded to Stadler

Of course the comments are predictable but doesn't mean they are wrong either. Hitachi may of produced a product quicker and on time but it's all ifs and buts really. I'm sure the product Stadler has produced will be an improvement apart from the seating layout but that's the passengers fault...

Tyne & Wear Metro Fleet Replacement: Awarded to Stadler

Having said that, Nexus as of yet has not dismissed what the Chronicle has said. The original timescale was Spring 2024 and now they have said there is another delay but not specified a particular timescale yet the Chronicle have said not until the end of 2024. The fact the main news outlets...

Tyne & Wear Metro Fleet Replacement: Awarded to Stadler

That's dissapointing if indeed there is no more new arrivals despite the issues as it's just creates the backlog even further of getting those particular trains into service. On a side note, I'm guessing the metro stock is not leased so in theory trains shouldnt be going for scrap despite...

Tyne & Wear Metro Fleet Replacement: Awarded to Stadler

I doubt it's the last option as the article is based on the nexus article that was put out last week of issues whilst testing. Tbf it wouldn't surprise me if there is a further significant delay but until the first half of 2024 is over with, I will retain some hope that they might come into...

Tyne & Wear Metro Fleet Replacement: Awarded to Stadler

Noticed on the Chronicle website of the new trains introduction being delayed till the end of 2024 yet there is no quotes which says that and they still hope they will have the introduction this year albeit with another delay. Either way, it's no surprises as there is still no signs any...

Tyne & Wear Metro Fleet Replacement: Awarded to Stadler

I wonder if that is the same issue with all the long term out of use units and if so then it's no wonder there has been no movements on the depot avoiding line especially the units that have not been in service since 2022(4001, 10, 60 and 76). As for the new trains coming into service, this is...

Tyne & Wear Metro Fleet Replacement: Awarded to Stadler

That's interesting, do you know if there is a deadline for that to happen?

Tyne & Wear Metro Fleet Replacement: Awarded to Stadler

I do wonder when the next scrap moves will take place, I'm assuming all those on the avoiding line will be the next ones to go(assuming in the order they are in now) but it does seem strange after 4002/83 going for scrap in October, nothing has happened since. Suppose the next few months could...
