I recently read this article on Crossrail, Crossrail - approaching the final stages (October 2016) and the date re: testing jumped out at me:
The teams are having to adapt to the new challenges of assurance but, clearly, the scale of these challenges will remain high. It appears to be a situation that Chris [Binns, chief engineer] and his team are relishing, but the clock is ticking with just over 300 days to go before tests start in November 2017.

While the "tests" referenced aren't entirely clear, is there any public information on whether testing will begin in November 2017? The section above this in the text was referring to CBTC in the core - it'd be interesting to know when this is scheduled to start...

I found some more information on this topic...

This article, Crossrail Profile (April 2017), mentions the following:
The next really big milestone for Crossrail is the start of dynamic testing, which is due to start in November 2017. This will involve testing the rolling stock on the network infrastructure,” Chris concludes. “Dynamic testing was originally due to commence in April 2018, but we brought this forward to November 2017 because we are in a position to do so and because it will allow for a longer period of dynamic testing, which will be of greater benefit to the programme as a whole. In order to be ready for dynamic testing in November there are several areas in terms of building infrastructure that must be ready, for example the track must be energised and we have to have the communications backbone working end-to-end in the area where dynamic testing is being implemented. There are a lot of critical activities that are going on before November 2017 and we have a ‘Master Operational Handover Schedule’ (MOHS), which sets out the milestones for the deliverables to be ready for dynamic testing and beyond.”

Another article, Crossrail project: the execution strategy for delivering London’s Elizabeth line (PDF), highlights Plumstead to Canary Wharf as the first area for dynamic testing.
The staged introduction of services revolves around the opening of the central operating section in December 2018. To build additional float and certainty on that stage, an effort was realised to plan for commencing early dynamic testing of a portion of the route (between Plumstead and Canary Wharf) in November 2017. This provided a 2 month additional float to the overall commissioning scheme.

Have we heard anymore about testing? Has the first unit run through the tunnels under its own power? I was also wondering when there would be enough 345s to run the service scheduled for December - if testing all went completely to plan and there were no issues whatsoever, when could Crossrail start running?
