Hi

I'm a mature student and I've been doing a 1 year full-time MBA at Cranfield University. This course comes to an end in October. It is eligible for a 16-25 Railcard.

I don't have one yet, but would I be able to get a new 1 year 16-25 Railcard if I apply for this before my course ends, or will it be pro-rata'd?

Thanks in advance

Gary

All the website says is "Mature students will need to provide evidence of continuing study every year, and so are only eligible to apply for the 1-year Railcard.". I will still be a student at this point.

You will need to take a for to your student services team to endorse confirming your student status. I can't remember what is on the form, but it might have study dates.

It remains valid until the railcard expires, so if you can possibly buy one as late into your course as possible then do so.

Same with a family railcard, an accompanying child turning 16 during the validity of the railcard can continue to benefit from child fares until the railcard expires

Note that in the case of 3-year family railcards the over 15 year old can only benefit up to the day before their 17th birthday.

About a year and a half ago just as my course was coming to an end I replaced my 16-25 railcard, there were no problems with it either at the Student Services at my University nor the railway station that I got the railcard from - there was nothing on the form that asked for study dates, all the person at Uni needed to do was stamp the form and the photo with the University stamp and sign and date the form. In fact, the person at the Uni knew full well what I was doing when I gave them the form once they looked at my student card and saw the expiry date on it!

You'll only be able to get a year-long one, but - and this kind of depends on who at the University you see - you will be able to get one for the whole year. The railway station won't ask to see any proof of you being a student (ie your student card) as the fact that the University has endorsed the form and your photo is proof enough.
