According to RTT there is a very weird late night service to Ramsgate from London Victoria which has a relatively normal stopping pattern to Faversham, but that then runs fast to Dover and then reverses to run fast to Ramsgate.

The diversion to Dover isn't shown on Google Maps, so I was wondering if anyone in the know could answer if the service does actually go to Dover, and if it does, is it in passenger service beyond Faversham?

The train does go to Dover, the stop isn’t advertised on the train or the passenger information screens at stations.

After Faversham it is advertised as Ramsgate only.

The service reverses at Dover and goes to Ramsgate, not 100% sure if a door release is given at Dover so passengers from there can still go to Ramsgate.

They usually do this move when there’s engineering work along the herne bay line so the stock can get still get to Ramsgate

The reasoning makes sense even though the service is really weird. Some day I'll have to go on it.

On Tuesday nights / Wednesday mornings only, there is a longer opportunity for overnight maintenance access on the down line between Faversham and Ramsgate, which closes in stages between 23:25 and 23:40 on Tuesday night (for access on Wednesday morning), instead of in stages between 01:15 and 02:00 on Tue / Thu / Fri / Sat mornings.

As a result, in the base Working Timetable on Tuesday nights only:

• 1S68 22:40 Victoria to Ramsgate and 1S72 23:40 Victoria to Ramsgate run via Dover Priory, with no advertised stops between Faversham and Ramsgate.
• 1J72 22:40 St Pancras to Margate and 1J76 23:40 St Pancras to Margate terminate at Ramsgate.
• There are WTT rail replacement buses to cover the missed stops.

Similarly, the Canterbury West route closes early on Monday nights, and Charing X on Monday and Tuesday (with trains starting from Cannon St.).
