Recently I've noticed that on OpenTrainTimes (OTT) there is a train without a schedule that leaves Horsham and travels through Dorking (at just after 9am) and Epsom then heads up towards Sutton. The train doesn't appear on RTT, but I know that it actually runs because I am within earshot of a whistle board. At least one day in the last week I've noticed what appears to be a return version of the same train (I didn't see it on OTT, because I didn't think to check, but I heard the horn at about either 3 or 4pm which did not align with any scheduled train on RTT). I'm not always home when the train(s) pass, so I don't know if it is running every day.

Could anyone advise what this service is, and why it is not appearing on the schedule?

Aha! Thank you. I guess I couldn't find it on RTT because its schedule didn't include all intermediate stations. You learn something new every day.

Is it some sort of rail treatment train?

It will be route learning for the autumn season I would imagine.

Possibly a silly question: why is there route learning for the autumn season? Is that for a new batch of drivers?
Not necessarily new drivers, but the drivers wil need to refresh their knowledge as they won't have driven it for many months.
