Does this service still exist the only train I can find is the 08:20 to Plymouth! Does it only run on certain days or is it a thing of the past?

At the moment it only runs to Penzance on Saturdays. However, from the May timetable change it will once again run daily (except Sundays).

I think it's returning at the May 20 timetable change.
Ah, they're also Plymouth only past the timetable change until June 6 - this is in RealTimeTrains as a variation to the standard timetable, so presumably there's some engineering work. I think when I was looking at this before, I came to the conclusion it was delays due to a rerouting in Yorkshire (an extra stop at Doncaster) meaning it arrived in Plymouth late enough it didn't make sense to do the full route.

The line between Chesterfield and Derby via Ambergate is closed Saturday 27th May to Sunday 11th June, therefore trains are diverted via Toton (and also Doncaster, but this is only really to avoid waiting around somewhere for the next path). Therefore the Aberdeen to Penzance drops into the path of 1V62 (the train 1 hour later) from Derby which terminates at Plymouth. 1V58 (the train 1 hour earlier) drops into the path of the usual Aberdeen to Penzance path from Derby.
