Possibly dumb question but I've bought a multi - leg Advance Single via UBER and collected the ticket from a machine.

Only one of the legs has the specific train booked mentioned on the ticket

Does that mean I could, for example, on one of the other legs take an earlier train than the one specified?

Or is there some way (via the various codes printed on the ticket) for a particularly thorough inspector to determine exactly which trains I should be on?

Thanks!

Which stations are you travelling between and what is the route restriction? For example does it say "XC ONLY" or "LNER AND CONNECTIONS" or something like that?

It would also be useful to know the stations between which the OP has been given a reservation, and the stations between which they don't have a reservation.

If the trains the OP lacks a reservation for are 'unreservable' then there is, as the OP alludes to, often no way for a member of staff to know what train you are supposed to be on. However, if you travels on a 'reservable' train without a reservation, it will be obvious that you are not travelling in accordance with your itinerary (since if your itinerary featured that train, you would have a reservation for it).

In theory a particularly suspicious member of staff could withdraw a ticket for investigation and get back office staff to look up the details from various references printed on your ticket, contacting the retailer for more information if necessary.

Overall it is advisable to stick to the itinerary you selected when buying your ticket unless you have good reason not to do so (or you are sufficiently clued up that you know which alternative trains you can and can't take).

Thanks both. No reservations, there isn't even a reservation coupon.

Route is SWR - tube - Great Northern - Greater Anglia

The single ticket coupon only references the Great Northern leg and just has the route/operator/departure time.

If you send me a pm I will help you. Not really enough info at the moment. We provide the ticket issuing system for Uber. You can verify that with forum admins if you wish. Many thanks and happy to help
