Hi all,

I am 18 years old, and am in the process of trying to join the railway.
In most recent years, I have worked doing hospitality for football matches, and even been a communications manager most recently.

Currently I live in Shrewsbury, (used to live in London hence my username) and am struggling to find anything.

Is there any advice anyone can give?

Look at the careers sections of the local train operating companies’ websites daily. Maybe visit a local station and ask them what sort of opportunities arise, how often, what the jobs entail and what you can do to gain good experience. Perhaps write to the TOCs to request work experience and put yourself on their radar? Obviously there are so many different jobs but if you were looking for something like dispatcher or conductor and eventually driver when old enough you need to demonstrate safety first and customer service a very close second.

It really is as simple as keeping an eye on TOC Careers website and applying for roles that take your fancy.

Given this thread is not about an application for a specific role, it doesn’t comply with our guidance for posting in this area. Please see the “read before posting” thread, and have a skim read through previous threads if any are of interest to you.

Good luck on the job hunt, but I’m going to have to bring this thread to a close :)
