The clansman stopped there until 1987 before routed to Edinburgh then Carstairs. The sleeper calling must of been the 60s when there was 3 services from Perth/Inverness to London

I have a Scottish Stations guide book somewhere (been hunting high & low since this thread) but can't find it.

I'm sure it shows the sleeper symbol by Cumbernauld & Coatbridge Central but can't be sure. The book may have been published in the 1980's

Will post back when I find it.

The Euston-Perth sleeper called there in the 70s AFAIK - I'll check in a 1977 timetable and report back

The Euston - Glasgow C / Perth sleeper stopped at Cumbernauld in the '84- '85 timetable so they ran at least until then.

Times FYI

Down - 2240 off Euston arr Cumbernauld 0556s (Perth arr 0705) Called there Sun - Fri.

Up - There was 2337 to Euston 0649 (From Perth 2225 combining with Glasgow C portion at Carlisle) and a 2358 to Euston 0721 (1930 off Inverness). These were Sun - Fri.
Saturdays there was a 2358 to Euston 0821 or 0854 depending on the time of year. This came from Inverness 1930 (carrying a portion from Fort William depending on the time of year).

I can expand on flymo's reply as I have a copy of the 4 Oct 1987 - 11 May 1988 NRT, and can confirm that the sleepers continued to call at Cumbernauld at that time. I suspect by then they had not long left though!

Mk1 sleepers would have been used for a number of years, yes. A bit of research leads me to believe that replacement with Mk3s took place between circa 1980 to 1984.

I'd concor with that I only travelled on a mk1 sleeper once and that was during spring 1982 when I travelled from Fort William to Euston.
The train was severely bricked during its stop outside Motherwell. My mate whom Id been climbing with was recalled to serve in the Falklands and we met up with another sailor in the Guards Van and drank ourselves silly. Happy Days
