Those mid herts stations serve a huge population and links from them to Stansted are very poor. The A120 road is often very busy and the bus links are worse.

A 40 minute journey from Stevenage would be most welcome.

I can vouch for that, the A120 is an absolute nightmare, especially in peak times! Either this or they could restart the proposal for a Standon and Little Hadham bypass!

Any other suggestions for a "micro-franchise"?

I'd like to see a stopping service through the Weaver Valley that goes the other way at Weaver Junction. Crewe-Winsford-Hartford-(Acton Bridge)-Warrington Bank Quay. Possibly going all the way to Preston, or perhaps to Manchester.

Although I'm led to believe that London Midland have plans to do something about that void after their Project 110 is completed.

Probably nothing to do with micro franchising in which case apologies (and also may have been discussed elsewhere). If routes were franchised based on regions, i.e franchise for Wales, Scotland, West of England etc the if there was demand and accessability the older long distant cross country routes could be picked up by an open access operator / charter company?
