Today the water company had to do some emergency work and I was without water for about two hours.

When it came back on, it all seemed fine, all the taps and the shower was working. I have not put on the washing machine on yet though.

However, I flushed the toilet to test it and the cistern wouldn't fill up (the toilet is a modern one and has a water inlet shut off valve)

Mr Google to the rescue, left the taps running etc, not much happened, although I heard some gurgling noise from the cistern once. Back to Google and Youtube, and I'm seeing all-sorts - I don't want to be trying everything, could make matters worse.

Is there a simple fix for this? Or is it worth calling the water company, as they caused the problem in the first place.

Many thanks in advance.

Hopefully this will not automerge.

Update:
What happened is the water pressure surge when they switched back on the supply has damaged a small plastic pin on a diaphragm causing it not release water from the water intake

The water company didnt want to know. They wanted £100 plus parts etc as it's 'Not their problem as it's inside the house'
My argument is, they caused it. They didn't want to know

I've put a complaint in for what it is worth.

Anyway, I bought the kit myself a Torbeck B661AT fill valve bottom entry. Under £15 on Amazon and the problem has been sorted. Saved a lot of hassle.

Invoice them for the £15 plus your time doing the work. Rounded up to the nearest hour.

Still been two weeks and heard nothing, rung them today and they say it is with the complaints team.
Moaned about no plumber coming out and no-one has called me. Usual response 'it's with the team who did the work' - translated - 'It's not my problem'
