Anyone bought into Simba/Eve/Tempur mattresses?

I'm looking into getting a new mattress. The one I have currently is a standard mattress, but I bought a memory foam topper which has been reasonably good. Not as fantastic as many others with similar joint and degenerative disease would have you think, but good.

I'm therefore looking at one of the new start-up company mattresses, such as Eve, Simba or Tempur. I must admit, I'm leaning more towards 'Simba', but I'm looking for further recommendations than all the 5-star reviews on various high-street brand webpages. Thoughts?

Memory foam matresses come in varying firmness. I have had a Tempur one (Tempur are not exactly a 'start-up' company, - our bed was made by them and we bought it over 10 years ago). The foam sandwich is good at first but gradually becomes compressed and firmer after 5-10 years. The most comfortable MF matress I have is a std. double sized on bought for £400 in a John Lewis sale. On the Tempur frame I now use one of these:

Definitely try different ones out, the foam mattresses are very different to spring ones and you could find them difficult to sleep on if you're not used to it.

We have an eve and a Simba in the house. I can’t tell the difference between them comfort-wise.

But do you feel the difference from other mattresses? How do you find them? What is the Simba like for temperature control?

Well that depends on how much you are willing to spend on ‘other’ mattresses. They are both more comfortable than the handmade mattress I spent £400 on 20 years ago that preceeded them, but not as comfortable as a £3k mattress from John Lewis (I tried one out, didn’t buy it!)

I don’t really notice temperature related to the mattress.

They are different to most memory foam mattresses you will get in, say, John Lewis - these latter type you ‘sink’ into and mould themselves around you. Eve and Simba don’t do that, they behave more like a regular mattress, but I found them generally more comfortable.

I think they both have 100 day no quibble guarantees. The price reflects that, and also very large marketing budgets.

I have an Eve mattress. The first time sleeping on it was hell, and I seriously thought about sending it back the next day. From the second day onwards, I got used to it very quickly, and can truthfully say that it’s mysteriously capable of sorting out all manner of minor back ailments (chiefly caused by a combination of appalling seating through my 5 years of secondary school and a subsequent habit of choosing railway jobs and various hobbies involving lugging large quantities of stuff around).

I’ve never really properly tried other mattress brands mentioned above, such as Simba. Bald Rick makes an interesting observation about certain traditional memory foam mattresses allowing you to sink into them, which brands such as Eve don’t do so much. This actually suits me, as I toss and turn a lot when I sleep (this reached a peak when I was about 20, and regularly found my duvet across the other side of the bedroom and various things broken if they’d been left near my bed, having slept deeply through it!), and tend to be woken if there’s anything preventing me moving around, such as thick ridges of memory foam which are no longer aligned with me.

A month or three after I got the Eve mattress, I also ordered their pillow. I was a bit skeptical (especially with their firmness and weight) but it’s a very positive combination.

Obviously none of these things are remotely as comfortable as staying over at my second cousins’ house and kipping down on their dilapidated old sofa, with a pillow formed from a cushion abandoned even by their labradoodle, but one cannot have everything in life...

You could easily spend a year trying different versions out, as others have said, the majority have a 100 day "test" period.

Ours is a "Bensons for Beds" mattress that has a "pillow" type topper stitched to it. It's okay but looking a little tired now. Bought in 2012-ish, so it's a few years away from the recommended replacement period but if I have some spare cash, I'll do it before than anyway.

I'll be looking very closely at the likes of Eve, Simba and Leesa (don't forget Leesa!) and fully plan on taking them up on their 100 day offer.
Although it puts me off thinking that my mattress might not be completely "new". Wonder if they wash them before sending them out to another customer.

I have a standard, no name, memory foam mattress. I paid £149. It's 100% memory foam and not a 'topper' or foam+memory foam. I took the plunge after having spring for many years and then using a 1" topper. There are certainly varying degrees of quality and the Tempur ones do 'sink' more but when I bought mine I deliberately choose one that was 'firm' Try them out in the showroom and find one that is comfortable. I personally don't like the sinking feeling and Tempur also offer ones that are still quite 'firm'

I have had no issue with temperature control but I have been told its warmer. A young(ish) lady who was a regular visitor... always stated how much she loved my mattress. My Son also has a non branded memory foam and it took him a few weeks to settle into a new style mattress. I will NEVER go back to springs and my next mattress I may go for one with a higher quality foam. I think Tempur is overpriced and after having a £149 memory foam is certainly sufficient.

What I would say is that the benefit of Memory foam is that there appears to be no loss of quality. The mattress still feels like the same day I bought it.

Good point about day 1, Sir... we thought we’d made an awful mistake. And the smell! Broadly the smell of kerosene. It goes very quickly though. (Same for both eve and Simba).

Just for later reference:

Emma: https://www.emma-mattress.co.uk - £599
Leesa: https://www.leesa.co.uk - £599
Simba - http://simbasleep.com - £625
Eve - https://www.evemattress.co.uk - £599

Although The Independant had different prices than me:

The Casper is our favourite of the new-generation bed-in-a-box options. It’s built to last, supportive, breathable – just a great all-rounder. The Leesa – which is ever so slightly firmer – comes a close second. From the pocket sprung options, the Somnus Supremacy Marquis 14000 comes with an eye-watering price-tag, but is utterly divine, while the Sealy Pocket Teramo 1400 is a real find for a more mid-range price. If price is your main consideration, we were amazed by the value for money provided by both the Dormeo Memory Plus Mattress and Ikea Morgedal.
