So Arriva posted a job advert for a depot near me recently so I applied via a link that was posted on facebook.

This is my first time applying.

It was a very basic portal application form. Name, address, job experience with a short box to explain your roles. Qualifications and that was it.

The application went from recieved to prossessing to ended. I've not heard anything since.

So my question. Is that normal and a more in depth application comes next? I have don't my research on how to pass the application so was expecting much more!

Any help is appreciated.

Thanks

That sounds like the end of the process for you then unfortuantely then. If it says "Process ended" on the application Arriva/DB portal, that normally means you are unsuccessful I believe. They don't always even email confirmation which isn't great form.

Evening

A few different companies recruit via the Deutsche Bahn (DB) site. Arriva have a few different companies under their umbrella with their own respective HR teams who all operate differently.

From my own experience, I have seen my own job applications change from 'under consideration' to 'end of process' by logging onto to my DB profile regularly. However, I only got the dreaded 'Dear John' e-mail a fortnight later.

HR's are usually maxed out by the volume of candidates applying for these jobs, so it isn't uncommon for them to simply not notify unsuccessful candidates properly. I don't agree with it, but it does happen.

Good luck with your future applications - just keep trying.

Not sure what else I could have written on the form it was literally fill in blanks. I'm well educated, been in my current job for 20 years. There was literally nothing on the form to give examples or wrote about yourself!

I'm not disappointed was just curious as to if this process is normal!

It was on the DB. I've not had any emails yet it closed on 24th August so I'll give it a few more weeks. You never know

Yes for some adverts, that portal just requires you fill in a few basics. Did you upload a CV and/or cover letter?

That is what my application was like but you were able to upload your CV and cover letter towards the end, in which I was able to go more in depth.

If you do have a DB account (you should have!) it does give you heads up on the status of each application to let you know if it is still 'live' or not.

As I say, HR's don't always advise people if they have been unsuccessful.

Assuming you were also going through the DB website, that is what my application was like but you were able to upload your CV and cover letter towards the end, in which I was able to go more in depth.
I didn't upload a CV as it clearly said upload a CV (which I don't have as been employed for 20 years in the same job) or fill in the form manually. The Advert was rather vague to be honest. I did speak with a friend who applied and did it exactly like he did and he was successful (been driving for 4 years).

There was no where at the end to upload anything else the advert didn't ask for any explanation as to why you were applying. I obviously assumed it would and already had it prepared but after I checked it as did my wife there was no where to upload any other documents. The whole thing felt more like an expression of interest prior to application to be honest.

I'm not was just curious I'm in a good job already so I'm not as disappointed as others may be but thought I'd come to a forum to see how to better approach it next time. I just fancy a change of career.

I see. I'd recommend adding a CV next time, as you say yourself, application forms are usually fairly vauge and don't ask for too many specifics. CVs and cover letters give you the chance to do that in much greater detail, solving that problem. This obviously varies depending on TOCs, EMR for example has what I feel is a very in-depth application, where the CV and cover letter just feel like 'add ons' to that.

im fairly sure the db job portal makes you add a cv, which when its such a basic application process will likely make all the difference

It doesn't make you it gives you the option to do one of three things, CV, if you have previously passed the assessment or upload you detail manually. It doesn't say do both I checked this a fair few times as did the Mrs.

It seems though having done some more research a CV is preferred so if I apply again I'll go that route. (Would be nice if that was specified though)

The Arriva job advert did state "Due to the high volume of interest it may also take some time before we are able to feedback on your application, but we will ensure all applicants receive a response"

So you should get a response eventually, but it may take a while. I imagine they had hundreds if not thousands of applications.
