Evening All,

I wondered if anyone could shed some light on a number of questions I have about the role of Train Manager at Avanti please. I can't find anything on the forum similar, but apologies if this ends up being a duplicate thread.

I applied for the role of 'Train Manager - Liverpool (Talent Pool)' back in October, and after successfully completing a number of online assessments over the months, I have been made aware I've got through to the face-to-face interview stage of the process.
  1. Does anyone have any tips about the interview? What to expect? The types of questions and examples I should prepare for?
  2. Does anyone know how many stages the recruitment process has? It's publicly available for Train Drivers, but for Train Managers I don't know how far along in the process I actually am
  3. Typically, how does the Talent Bank work within Avanti? And how long should you expect to stay in there before 'properly' starting training and/or the job
Finally, if anyone has any general comments or advice about the role, too, that would be much appreciated. I really want the job(!) so am eager to take in as much information as possible to give myself the best chance.

Thank you in advance.

I've only just been given my assignments to do today, I don't suppose you can let us know what to expect as there are 8 tasks to do and I'm dyslexic, so need to email them before making a start.

Many Thanks

What's the subject line of your email? I can try and help.

Does anyone have any information to share here please? Thanks.

Morning,

How did you get on with your one to one interview? Hope it went well. What stage was that? Did you have to do a digital interview? I've just had an email to say I've passed my assessments and now have a digital interview and it's got to be completed within in 4 days, which isn't long to practice.

Many thanks

Yes I got the job! All went really well, the two interviewers were really nice and explained that if I didn't understand any of the questions, because say they used 'rail language', then they could explain. All really friendly. The virtual interviews were a while back for me: I think five questions and you get an unlimited amount of time to prep, and once you hit record you get 2-minutes to answer, and can redo it once. I think after the virtual interview, there's two more stages, one more of online tests, and then a face-to-face interview. Have you done your virtual tests with Arctic Shore yet? I can't remember if that was before or after the virtual interviews. If it was before, there's only one stage left after!

Aww well done to you

Yes I did my virtual test about a month ago and then I was put through to this digital interview, which I was meant to complete yesterday but didn't end up going through with it in the end. I'm gutted, but didn't feel comfortable or confident as I had questions that I was prepping for and when I clicked the link it gave me the 4 questions I was going to be asked and 2 of them 4 was not what I prepped for, and I haven't got the gift of the gab, and with my dyslexia I have to learn a certain way and go over things over and over. It's frustrating as I know I could do the job, it's why I joined the railway. I will go for it again if it when it comes up. So what would of been next after a digital interview another test?

It'd be either some final online assessments or a face-to-face final interview. You should email and explain, they may give you an extension. I stumbled my words and also felt like I repeated myself a couple of times to try and use up all of the 2-minutes so wasn't particularly confident with how they went. You should definitely give it a go, you never know!

Hello CEB24, Any tips on the questions asked at the interview for the role of Train Manager? I have a interview pending in a few weeks any information would be helpful and how soon after your interview did they contact you with a job offer?

Hey, I heard back exactly one-week after my face-to-face interview, if it's a digital/virtual interview it was a few days, less than a week. Which interview is it?

I completed the digital / virtual interview and received a email for the next stage to have a face to face interview. I really want this role and don't want to mess it up. Do you remember what questions they asked you and roughly how many interviewing questions were there if your able to give out information on here would be grateful or if you prefer to email me?

Which depot have you applied for? I'm in for Wolves but not heard anything yet. I completed the digital one on 16/03

I applied for London Euston Depot Talent Pool. They got back to me just over a week from the day I submitted the virtual interview. You should drop recruitment a email for a update on your completed virtual interview.

Did you receive a phone call or via email that you have been successful and put in the talent pool ?

What was the process? Are there tests at the interview or are they online before you get an interview?

weird they would say they use rail language, i assume you are already a train driver as i thought avanti only recruit management from train drivers in which case you would already know rail language, i thought you had to have at least 3 years driver experience, is this not the case as i applied for trainee driver but i am already 11 year experienced manager in another field and would have applied if driver experience is not needed.

I don’t think you understand what the role is.

Train manager is what avanti call conductors/guards. Don’t need driving experience what so ever, you’re probably thinking of a driver manager, which you do need driving experience for

People tend to go from being a train manager to a train driver, not the other way around

Hi,
Congratulations! I completed my Safety Awareness Test. I am unsure about what stage of the application process I am in. Do you know how many stages I have left?
Thank you.

When I sat this earlier on the year the next stage was an interview.

It took a while to arrange so patience is key here.
