I am looking for advice on how to resolve my problem.Today i got caught by an inspector for having a ticket partially covering my journey. This ia is because sometimes i get a lift half the journey. I use c2c from basildon to westham.I had a ticket from basildon to west horndon.Today i stayed on the train because my friend was runnimg late and i had an exam at uni.Anyways the inspector took all my tickets-for a week and said that he will check the camera to see if i usually get off half way or stay on the train for the full journey without a full ticket. He took my details .I gave him my name.Incorrect dob.and previous adress.I.Im fully aware it was wrong and rung c2c after my exam today to ask if i can correct this issue.I want to pay the fine.My worry is how will they find me now since i have given my previous adress amd wrong dob.I am not asking this question so I dodge the penalty fare.I am asking because i genuinely want to pay the fine for today .For half the journey my ticket didnt cover. If the fine remains unpaid can it become a criminal conviction with incorrect dob?I am worried about have this record on my dbs as i finish my course in radiology next summer.I also feel really bad about not having a fill ticket today.

1. Did you attempt to pay a fare before being challenged?

2. Did you get issued with a Penalty Fare? Assuming no to the second, then you can expect to hear from C2C or their agents. The letter may be some time coming:(
They will probably mention prosecution and ask for your side of the story.
It's unfortunate that you lied to start with, but you have tried to correct it.
You may be able to reach an out of court settlement, particularly if this was an isolated incident.
If not, you may be taken to court and be fined.

However, don't worry - having a minor conviction like this on your Enhanced DBS is not likely to affect your career.
Your main worry is that the letter will go to the wrong address. You either need to make arrangements with the present resident OR write (signed-for) to the address you were given giving the correct information AND the original details. I wouldn't rely on a phone call alone.

Thank you for your reply 30907

Yes i did attempt to ask for a fine. But one of the other inspectors said no;because i might be doing this all the time.I have never had a situation with inspectors before.I aways have my ticket.I explained all this to the inspector .He said they need to check the cameras to see if i actually get off at west horndon. And they will write to me.
He said somethin about what said to him maybe used as evidence in court.I am really worried .When i rung c2c ,they said i should contact IRCAS.
Thank you for your advice i will write to IRCAS.My brother was telling me that since i have given them incorrect date of birth, they wont find me .Is this true ?
I am worried that they will put flyers all over c2c if they cant find me.
Sorry if i sound silly--im really really worried.

I'm afraid that you should not take too much notice of your brother. No, it is not true. Giving your previous address is not the 'escape mechanism' that so many people think it is. In my experience it is commonplace to trace someone from previous accommodation these days. Furthermore, if you are travelling daily for college as your original post seems to suggest, it is very likely that you will be recognised in future.

Giving any false details just makes matters worse for you because it provides the inspectors with apparent evidence of your intention to avoid a fare.

30907 has given you some good suggestions.

Bu giving a false address it will mean that you wont get any correspondence, that means you wont receive the summons and it will go to court in your absence, you'll probably be found guilty and you'll get a fine that wont be paid (because you wont know about it) and the courts will then be after you for unpaid fines.

Giving correct name and old address is probably the worst combination for the person reported. Personally I'd contact them to clarify your details etc.

Thank you for reply.I will write to c2c.
Does incorrect date of birth make any difference when I write to them as i gave the inspector incorrect date of birth?
Sorry if my question is silly. Both the above answers clarified about name and old adress.
Either way i will write to c2c today.Thank you for your help.

Personally, I would correct all of the details that you gave incorrectly.

If you are over 18 years of age and if this matter ended up before a Court, the Summons would have whatever date of birth you gave on it. If this were wrong, you would simply be asked by the Court to confirm your correct date of birth so it would be sensible to give the correct one now, apologise for your actions and see if you can get this settled promptly before it becomes much more serious.

The IRCAS website says they offer a prosecution service. But you might want to confirm by email from C2C whether you should be contacting IRCAS. When you write to whoever is relevant - IRCAS or C2C's prosecution department - you could ask for confirmation that they now have your correct details.

Did your friend send a text or call you while you were on the train to say they couldn't give you a lift at the right time? A text or phone record might support your case that when you got on the train, you didn't intend to travel further than your ticket allowed.
