Hello

I wondered if anyone is in the know re the latest at Barking Station and the refurbishment which seems to be proceedings very slowly to put it politely.

I also wondered if anyone knows anything about the increasing number of Westbound District/Hammersmith and City line trains departing from this more distant platform. There’s a poster up in the station saying there’s only three such H & C trains depart a day but there’s far more, with minimal indication to passengers that such trains exist so they often depart nearly empty

Lastly, whilst I assume it’s because it’s a c2c station it’s very irritating that posters regarding the frequent service changes / cancellations on the Goblin aka Suffragette Line are seldom displayed at Barking whereas they are much more prominently displayed at TFL run stations on the line with a much lower footfall

Anyway, moaning over and grateful to hear from anyone with any knowledge of the above!

Thank you

I assume the ’three trains a day’ refers to timetabled use of this bay platform, whereas other ad hoc use consists of:

i) District Line trains being curtailed short of Upminster (or Dagenham East) to recover the timetable after disruption, and..
ii) H&C terminating trains (and District Line Barking terminators) being reversed in the bay platform, again to recover time, because it’s faster than running them into the sidings east of the station to reverse, and doesn’t require de-training passengers.

When I lived in the area, all (or most) H&C trains went into the bay platform, so clearly the method of operation has changed in recent years.

The poster at Barking is correct as the only scheduled H&C trains from platform 3 are at 06.45½, 07.36½, 21.54½.

However, since 14 December 2014 an off-peak District service to/from Wimbledon operate every 20min from platform 3. Prior to that the roles were reversed, with H&C trains using the bay. District services also operate to other destinations from platform 3 in the peaks.

As said above, disruption causes short trips to both District and H&C services.
