Two years ago it was reported that Beeston and Tarporley Station could reopen in December 2022; is there any update about whether or not this is still no target?

Also with Beeston and Tarporley in the pipeline, is there much scope for reopening the stations at Waverton and at Calveley (to serve Wardle and Bunbury)?

That's just a very optimistic news report that a bid for funding had been made, not actually a promise that the station will open. I think the bid was unsuccessful.

Would a station near Calveley have more potential? Calveley and Aplraham are little more than hamlets and in the countryside, but there is a big farm factory on the other side of the road and canal which serves the North West Agriculture. If it was a park and ride station then it would serve both the factory and also the towns/villages of Tarporley, Bunbury, Beeston, Church Minshull and Wettenhall - much easier than driving or getting the bus to Nantwich or Chester.

I just can't see any new stations being used (regularly at least) along that line for the foreseeable.

At a push, maybe around 7-8am and 5-7pm?

The factory is unlikely to give significant traffic for workers unless shift times align with the trains (and the workers live in Crewe or Chester rather than any closer village). I also don't really see how you're intercepting any road journeys with a Park and ride at either site. Certainly not enough to justify building a station and reducing line capacity.

If there's no demand for a station why is there such a demand for it to be rebuilt on the site of the old station?

Is there such a demand? Or is there a handful of people who make an awful lot of noise? I suspect there is demand for it to be rebuilt on the old site because there was once a station there and not because of any suppressed transport demand.

For reference, East Linton and Reston stations had estimated annual entry/exit figures of 126,000 and 61,000 respectively. https://www.transport.gov.scot/publ...s-between-edinburgh-and-newcastle/j196975-07/

There is a well established Beeston & Tarporley railway station association that are campaigning and have an application thats ongoing with thr DFT, it's a growing spread with lots of new developments being built. For them driving from these rural areas into Chester or crewe takes 45mins but the train journey will take 12mins, so they are looking at a park & ride car park with bus links.

I hope it happens as these type of applications help get traffic off our very congested roads.

Apologies if this has already been posted, but last week the government approved the reopening of Beeston Castle & Tarporley Station, having been closed in the 60s; looks like the Crewe-Chester line may finally have a station on it again. As well as serving Tarporley, it would be convenient for people wishing to visit the castle or using the canal. There is also the cattle market and a nice coffee shop cafe near where the station is sited.

Plans to reopen a station which was shut in 1966 have been approved by the government, a campaign group has said.

Good decision - if they build plenty of reasonably priced parking, it'll be a decent railhead for Mid Cheshire.

closed in 2019 unfortunately. https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-manchester-48855700
Will the 1-train hourly shutttle work with an extra stop? It currently has less than 10-minute turnrounds at each end.
