I am stopping in Berlin soon and I want to go for the day from Berlin to Szczecin in Poland.
Has anyone done this or does anyone know about Szczecin and what train or trains I catch. How far is the station from the city center.

Any help would be good.

May I suggest you look up a travel planner ( bahn.de/en ) and Google Maps for the station location before further inquiries.

I have done this trip. I made the mistake of buying my ticket from a machine at Berlin and it was really expensive as it issued me an Intercity ticket. When I got on the train (a small DB diesel unit) it had a ticket machine onboard it was much much cheaper. It was a slow trip and Szczecin was okay.

I did Berlin-Szczecin and back in a day a couple of years ago. The journey takes about 2.5 hours. It's an irregular service though with up to 3 hours between trains. Szczecin is pleasant enough, and the town centre is about a 15-20 minute walk from the main station (Szczecin Glowny). As I was travelling with a friend, we did the entire journey using the Brandenburg-Berlin ticket (starting at €29 for two people). North of Angermünde, the line is obviously a shadow of what it was. The stations are basic, but many have the old, very grand, station buildings in situ, now sadly shuttered and abandoned. The ride across the German/Polish border was very lively, with the DMU bouncing around on delapidated track. You should be aware that owing to engineering works, direct trains depart from Berlin Lichtenburg (3 per day with an extra on Fridays). There are connections available at Angermünde from Berlin Hbf/Gesundbrunnen for the remaining services. The current timetable is valid to 11 October only, so I would reiterate NicholasNCE's advice to check journey details before you make any plans.

Brandenburg-Berlin-Ticket is valid.

In the travelplanner there is also mention of the VBB-Anstoßtarif; 11 Euro, but that will be a one way ticket.

8.00 - 9.49 direct train
9.12 - 11.39 (1 change)
12.10 - 14.39 (1 change)

Return
15.17 - 17.47 (1 change)
17.23 - 19.45 (1 change)
19.51 - 21.45 direct train

There are also several trains through Kostrzyn (border more south than normal). Not sure whether B-B-T is valid there.

The B-B-T ticket is valid to Kostrzyn (NEB trains) as I've done that journey too. For completeness, it's also valid on these cross-border routes into Poland: Forst-Zasieki, Frankfurt ad Oder-Slubice. You can also use it on bus 989 between Frankfurt and Slubice and last but not least on buses and trams in Szczecin.

But it doesn't cover Szczecin via Kostrzyn.

The route via Kostrzyn looks to me like a detour; not a direct line.
