Best way to commute from Warwick Parkway to East Finchley

Hi all,

Trying to plan a new commute for myself.
Warwick Parkway to a Zone 3 LU station.
I have ruled out any season tickets as I hold a 16-25 railcard and will only be going in 3x a week.

I've got the main section nailed down - Trainsplit adds splits at Bicester North, Haddenham and Thame Parkway which gets down to £63.
However Trainsplit doesn't want to generate fares to LU Zone 3. So I can't figure out if it's cheaper to get a ticket that includes travel in London Underground, or if I should just use contactless?
Any help is appreciated. Thank you.

Unless you're travelling to somewhere like Hanger Lane that's on the "correct" side of London when coming from Warwick, and are happy to accept the time penalty for avoiding Zone 1 by changing at West Ruislip etc., then you will realistically be looking at getting a ticket to "London Underground and DLR Zones 1-3". Fares won't be defined purely to Underground Zone 3 since there is no interchange between the Chiltern line and the Underground in Zone 3 - only in Zones 1, 4, 5 or 6.

Since you have a Railcard, a through ticket that includes the Underground will usually work out cheaper than using PAYG, particularly if you will be touching in at times when peak fares apply (06:30-09:30 and 16:00-19:00 for most journeys around London).

A season ticket works out at around £90 per journey just to Marylebone, so as you say, it's not worthwhile when you have a Railcard. Of course, split tickets do limit your choice of trains, particularly in the morning and evening peak when the calling patterns often involve skipping stations on a seemingly random basis.

This is what I expected however I am stuck on how to actually purchase a ticket to London Underground and DLR Zones 1-3. Trainsplit won't offer it as it can't generate an intinery for it and Chiltern's own website for some reason starts giving some very odd combinations when I try.

I'm happy with the morning (there is basically only one train that'll get me in on time) and for the evening the split is at Haddenham and Thame Parkway and Bicester North which it seems almost every train stops at.

I mean, I was able to, and it's just £69.35 (+ ticket splitting fee, would come out to £74.18 total, Anytime Day Singles and Returns with the same station splits), however, I did enter "London Underground and DLR Zones 1-3" as the destination.
