Best way to protect a magnetic season ticket strip?

Hi there

Are there any slim card holding wallets out there that can protect the magnetic strip of a season ticket? Or does anyone have any other suggestions?

The strip became unreadable yet again today [error code 9]. I only replaced the ticket within the last week. It is happening frequently, although not weekly. I do have two Oyster cards in the same pocket which may not be helping matters, if Oyster cards do indeed affect season tickets. One in my wallet and another on a Oyster wallet.

My other pocket includes my keys, attached to me via a chain and my phone. The phones casing has a magnet in it. I also think there is more chance of my season ticket accidentally being dropped out of that pocket as I get something else out. Losing my season ticket would be far worse than having to keep getting it replaced due to magnetic strip failures.

Don't put the ticket near any magnets or mobile phones - use another pocket.

I keep my ticket next to an Oyster and it causes me no problems

You can get a magnetic stripe protector. These should prevent the stripe from being affected by other cards or random magnets. This should protect the magnetic stripe on a season ticket from being damaged...

I've never tried them myself but here's an Amazon link:

Of course, if you're feeling really fed up you can get yourself some Mu Metal (Linky) and fashion yourself an expensive holder.
This stuff does prevent stray magnetic fields but it's probably an expensive overkill for the problem! :)

Cheers,

Could be the quality of the ticket stock - my last Gold Card lasted all year, being kept in my wallet next to my Oyster card, work pass and PayWave credit card - and for a large part of the time in the same pocket as my NFC-enabled phone... But kept away from other magnets.

I keep my pass in one of these wallets. Not had a problem with tickets being demagnetised since. The magnet on my mobile phone case does a good job of making the stripe unreadable.

I've now ordered the SECVEL product, before RJs message. Hopefully it will do the job.
