I stumbled on this by accident whilst walking from Mersey rail to the Stena Northern Ireland Ferry Terminal. Does anybody know why it's closed and whether it's likely to reopen?

Apparently closed for building works. There is a show taking place on 1st October, but entrance to the museum will not be possible. It’s not a bad little museum when it is open.

I'd been to Birkenhead in the past to Tranmere Rovers and many years ago in to the docks with the Royal Navy and I'd no idea that the museum and tramline existed. Whilst it's nice to stumble on things like this the lack of advertising or even information of any kind does seem a bit strange.

Been there a couple of times, last year was my previous visit. As well as trams they have buses and a model railway. Hope it does reopen. Used to open weekends in summer plus some midweek days in school holidays whem trams ran on a short section of line .

Regularly visited the museum with it being a short bus or train trip away, good little museum, hope they are able to reopen and also get the trams back to Woodside. Although believe the new Wirral Waters scheme wants to utilise and extend the tramway to serve their new developments around the docks.

From the MTPS website with regards to the Wirral Transport Show - Sunday 1st October.

"As you may know, Wirral Transport Museum is a council owned building which between now and October is expected to pass to Big Heritage via an asset transfer. From 1st September the Museum building in Taylor Street will close to all volunteers for a proposed 6 week refurbishment. This will significantly affect the customary Bus & Tram Show scheduled for Sunday 1st October. A separate issue is that because of a health & safety backlog we will be unable to run trams, regardless of the museum status.

To ensure that we honour the date we have planned a different style of event for the date usually occupied by the Bus & Tram Show. Entitled Wirral Transport Show, the event will be centered on Pacific Road building on Shore Road, with additional vehicle displays at Taylor Street and Woodside. A free bus service will link the three sites at frequent intervals.

We ran a similar event in 2021 under the same title, with a handful of traders in the open at Taylor Street. There is an important difference this time as Pacific Road will provide under cover accommodation for our traders.

Hot & Cold drinks, sandwiches and cakes will be available provided by the 201 Bus Group".
