I'm wondering what the best spots are for photography here. I remember the old indoor viewing gallery, but that has been closed for a good few years unfortunately. I've used Birmingham international station before but I don't think much of it, I'd rather have a clearer view. Also I've seen footage from sheldon country park but this would be a last resort. What would you recommend? I've heard about an outdoor viewing site within Airport boundaries but I can't recall its exact location.

Answers on a postcard, thanks.

Probably the best location is in the Car Park 5 - you can get some good shots of the aircraft on the apron and also when the aircraft are using runway 33 for departures, they'll be taxiing right by you. The car park is to the south of the terminal; there is a set of benches as well, and it is a recognised spotting location by the airport.

This website gives a good explanation of the possible viewing points, including alternative areas such as by the golf course and old Airport.

Hope that helps!

Why would Sheldon be a 'last resort' ?

The runway ends in the park itself. The best place to get into the park is the entrance behind Marston Green station, which brings you down by the landing lights on the north end of the runway.

The bridge at Marston Green isn't bad at all, but I've never been anywhere but there or Sheldon so couldn't say more unfortunately.

It seems like a good spot but I was wondering about locations within airport boundaries.

The A45 follows the other end of the runway and it has a footpath were people are sometimes set up with cameras, it's after the Kia garage in the direction heading to the M42.

I finally popped down to BHX today, the weather was lovely and I got some nice pics. The only downside was that the Qatar 787 wasn't running today, but I've seen them before quite a few times so it's not a big deal. I'll eventually get round to uploading the pics, once I can find my camera cable! Once again, thanks for the advice.

Some of my faves from today...
