Hi,
I'm planning to buy a BHM-YRK Off Peak Return and would like confirmation that the ticket is valid via Manchester Piccadilly and that I can break my journey there ( for lunch with friends) before continuing on to York using TPE. The various journey planners do allow for this route in their itineraries.
Thanks,

Yes, it is valid by a wide range of routes, which includes via Manchester; the journey planners are correct.

It is possible to do outward & return journeys by completely different routes, with no miles of track covered twice.

In my student days I would do Brum - Newcastle via Stockport / Stalybridge or via Carlisle to avoid getting an HST. Plus nicer scenery!

Great news ! Plan to travel outbound via Manchester and return via Sheffield. It's a shame that I cannot travel Birmingham - Sheffield - Manchester - York as the Hope Valley line is particularly scenic.

You can if you split your ticket at Manchester, but that wouldn't allow you to travel back via Derby.

Presumably you'd sell your grandmother for a HST now!

Erm, no! If I was making the journey now then it would be a case of changing at Doncaster for a 91, but once the TPE loco-hauled are up and running then via Manchester becomes the best option again.
