I am looking at booking an Advance ticket using a First Group website. If I wanted to change the date of travel, looking at the online refund form, it looks like I need to book the new ticket before the date of original travel. It looks like I can do this by making a brand new booking rather then a change of date excess. Then I need to submit the refund request and upload a photo of the new tickets. I will not need to upload any photos of the original tickets as I can leave these uncollected.

However, in terms of submitting the online form do I need to do this before the date of original travel or do I simply need to make sure that I book the new ticket before the date of original travel?

In terms of the refund method, as I'll have booked a new ticket already, will they refund the original ticket back onto my payment card? I think it is only when the date of new travel is unknown do they issue an e-voucher.

Thanks.

You need to apply for a refund prior to 1800 one day prior to travel no need to make a new booking at that point.

If I just apply for a refund though I'll end up with an e-voucher which I'd like to avoid. If I rebook and refund will they refund the original ticket to my original payment method? If I book.a new ticket and request a refund do I need to ensure I request the refund by 1800 the day before travel or merely ensure I've booked the new ticket by then? The refund form is unclear.

The form implies an e-voucher request must be submitted by 1800 the day before travel. For rebook and refund it says the new ticket must have been booked before original date and time of travel.

I'd recommend going to a physical ticket office or calling up the point of purchase, as that's your best (and safest) option, as you may encounter some issues with booking a new ticket.

The travel with confidence scheme is a completely different thing, it's for people who have purchased an advanced ticket, and cannot travel anymore, they can apply for an e-voucher refund - while for you, you want to rebook your ticket rather than can't travel.

The book with confidence also allows for fee free date changes to advance tickets, in addition to a refund by way of a voucher if desired.

Here is the refund form I'm looking at offering refunds on the basis of new ticket purchased https://firstgroup-refunds.fastrailticketing.com/ It's the exact same form for TPE and LNER.
Apologizes, I actually didn't know that, funnily enough!

I recommend you calling up the appropriate team, as they'll be able to get you sorted - and much quicker too. Those forms will only get you as far as a refund.

But that's what I'm saying if I fill in that form will the refund be back into my credit card rather than an e-voucher as I've booked a new ticket already.

Also when must I submit the form by? For an e-voucher request it's 1800 the day before travel but for a rebook and refund situation the deadline is less clear. They do require a photo of the new tickets though, which I won't collect until travel.

Aside, am I right in saying that TPE have always given refunds when you rebook another ticket?

Unfortunately, I'm not too sure - hence why I suggested calling them up.

From a legal perspective, they should refund you the money to your card. I would recommend emailing them too, rather than filling out a form - that'll mean you're guaranteed a reference and some sort of 'evidence'.

Your booked ticket confirmation which you get via email is enough evidence until you collect your new tickets.

I've never done this before, so I can't really comment on whether or not it's possible, I can only recommend what my (personal and safest) choice would be: to call them, but I understand not everyone is able to.

Maybe somebody else is able to comment on whether or not it'll be an easy process :)

TPE will give a refund back to the original payment method using the change of advance form. You need to book the new advance first (which it sounds like you’ve already done) and it’ll ask for a screenshot of the E-ticket, or it’ll just cancel the TOD assuming it’s not been collected. I book with TPE all the time and they’ve always given a refund to the original payment method for this type of change.
