Why does Bordesley have such a limited service and has had such a limited service for so many years? This one really baffles me so i wonder if there is a sepecific reason for this?

It currently has one train a week in one direction only. The exception is on football match days when it gets a more frequent service.

Almost all stations with such a limited parliamentary service are very little used rural stations in the middle of nowhere or are on a line that has infrequent service or have something wrong with them such as an unsafe footbridge. None of that applies to Bordesley though.

Bordesley however is in a very busy urban area. It is right near the centre of Birmingham and in a busy area full of houses and shops and businesses and warehouses and everything else you would find in a busy urban area.

Bordesley should have a frequent service of trains every ten or fifteen minutes in each direction. It should have the same frequency that neighbouring Small Heath and Tyseley have.

Are there any plans to finally give it a frequent service like Small Heath and Tyseley have? I would be interested if anyone knows more about the reasons for a station in such a busy major area getting almost no trains?

Ardwick is another one. But it does get one train a day each way.

It will get closed if Midlands Rail hub is funded as its in the way.

I dont suppose there is much call for it as it stands. There arent that many houses around there. There is a frequent bus service that passes the station.
When the trains used to call all day, it was very rare off peak that anyone got on or off.

Wonder how much of the c. 10,000 annual patronage figures for Bordesley station is accounted for by folk attending football matches at the Birmingham City FC ground. 99%?

Usage on non-match Saturdays has to be 'de minimis' if not zero.

On match days, it is very busy. I regularly work those trains. The platforms are usually very crowded. I've not worked the Saturday's only one train per week that's scheduled to call there, so can't comment on how many use it then, but my colleagues who do work that one train reckon more often than not, nobody gets on or off. I do wonder how many people actually realise it calls there.

I used to live near the station. The area around the station is mostly factories and disused buildings with a few amenities (and one major resturant) thrown in the mix. The major employer near that area is National Express as it has a big bus depot but other than that, nothing much. Most of the interesting stuff is in the west of the station and that's within the walkable distance of Moor Street and has a lot of buses passing through.

For example, if a person wants to visit Custard Factory for example, that person would go to Moor Street and use a bus or walk from there. The bus service in that area is incredibly frequent, there'll be a bus every minute from Moor Street. With tram line coming soon, I can't see the station being useful even for the football days.

Interestingly, right now (2133) on Google Maps it is described as “Busier than Usual” :D

I take there's no problem exiting the station on the once-a-week service as I was planning to finally knock off Bordesley on Saturday?

Isn't that part of the problem - if more trains stopped there then all the non stop long distance trains would have to be slowed down?

Currently no return journey in the timetable on Saturdays (just the morning one), and there was only 1tpd (the evening one) on weekdays between May 2022 and Dec 2022

It'll likely be the busiest day of the year tomorrow (Friday) as West Brom are visiting Birmingham City (ko 8.00pm).
WMR are making 14 calls, eight from 18.46 to 19.49 and another six from 21.52 to 23.04.

I can think of no worse game of football. Hope it’s 0-0 and 4 sendings off.

It’s a shame the very limited service that Bordesley gets, as others have stated, it’s well located. Usually if I am going to Digbeth, I’ll get off at Moor Street and walk, the tram service - when it starts, will be a handy link also

There is a gate which is locked when the station is closed. It is normally open by 10am on Saturdays. There is a help point on the platform.

Utterly useless on a midweek match night though.

My mate is often stuck between leaving the game 20 minutes early (not going to happen) to catch a train home from Bordesley, or practically sprint down Digbeth to try and get the last one out of Moor Street (invariably cancelled).

The last ones out of Bordesley are also often cancelled leaving loads of people up the swanny. It really is a dog**** situation there after a night game. You'd think they'd want to move 1000s of people out of the area pretty quickly. Obviously not.
