Once the lockdown has ended, public transport is going to struggle commercially to get back to previous usage levels.
Bus services in particular are likely to be the hardest hit with potential frequency reductions and service withdrawals.
I foresee bus route franchising as the only outcome in many areas of the UK to retain any kind of decent network.

To try and entice people back onto public transport I feel that we need to have some major bus routes incorporated into rail journey planners with decent connections offered and through ticketing available.

1. Are there any existing through ticket and advertised connecting buses on rail industry journey planners?
e.g York - Whitby?

2. Are there currently any high quality bus services which could easily be added to rail journey planners and through ticketing offered?
e.g Penrith - Keswick?
Bangor - Caernarfon- Porthmadog

3. Are there other routes that really should be adjusted/diverted to serve railway stations and then be added to rail journey planners and through ticketing offered?
e.g Wisbech - March

This could save millions on umpteen feasibility studies for reopening lines that most people already know would be financial basket cases because of the enormous infrastructure costs of reinstating the rail link.

I look forward to seeing all your suggestions for points 1, 2 and 3!

Two more which feature in the NR journey planners and offer through ticketing are Borders Buses services 60, Galashiels - Duns - Berwick and X95, Galashiels - Selkirk - Hawick - Carlisle.

(Both services are currently running to a restricted timetable, in line with the Scottish Government's Covid-19 lockdown measures.)

Stagecoach X4 Peterborough-MK used to show up on the screens at Peterborough Station, even though the service now departs from Queensgate which is a 5 minute walk away. Believe evening journeys used to serve the station, however. Likewise the First Eastern Counties X1 to Lowestoft (Now Excel A/B/C/D) was listed up as a service to Derehan.

I believe the departure boards showing this were a hangover of the days BR had contracted coach services operating as permanent rail replacements, following line closures.

Cambridgeshire Busway services between Cambridge North and St Ives would be a great contender!
