Are there such things as bus spotting books in the same vein as the railway ones where you can check off fleet numbers etc?

HB publications also produce numerous titles, check out their website. Ian Allan bookshop at Waterloo stocks plenty of bus books if you are in London anytime.

As well as British Bus Publishing already mentioned (who produce quality books on glossy paper with plenty of pictures in them), there are other firms that produce bus fleetlists which are more 'cheap and cheerful'. These include:
ST Publications who also do spitting books for almost every form of transport you can imagine, including Royal Mail fleets, Ships and Boats!
GB Bus Group - some of their books seem to be sold out.

The PSV Circle also produces detailed fleet lists for all operators in the country, see http://www.psv-circle.org.uk/CurrentPublications.htm to download a publications list.

Interesting question.

How many books would you need to cover all UK buses/coaches?
Are there indeed books to cover them all including all the independent operators?

The PSV Circle books I mentioned cover all operators, including (I think) even those with only one or two vehicles. At a quick count, there is a total of 58 books! (They are the 'G' series in the publications list.)

I live in Devon not too far from Exeter and so Stagecoach is the company round these parts. Also, pending a medical on Monday, I shall soon be driving for Stagecoach so that is where my main interest is. Having looked on the sites mentioned above, I see there is a good choice of books available.

The above are very good books with colour photographs and recently updated. Other publishers offer cheaper but more basic versions of these titles.
