Hi all,

I posted something similar on here about 5 years back asking about what routes Buxton driver/ guards sign. Since all direct service from Buxton to Blackpool and Wigan have stopped.

Do they still sign to Blackpool and Wigan? If so I can’t imagine they have many trips to Blackpool surely only One or two jobs a day?
Also I know guards signed Chester at one point is this still the case? Seems odd they signed Chester anyway as there were never any direct services?
Thanks in advance.

Drivers still sign to Blackpool, they have a couple of trips a day. Guards still go to wallgate.

Of what I can remember;

Drivers;
Buxton - Manchester Oxford Road (via Pic).
Manchester Oxford Road - Blackpool North (via Chorley).
Bolton - Wigan.
Manchester Pic - Manchester Airport.
not 100% sure - Salford Crescent - Wigan (via Allerton line).

Guards;
Buxton - Manchester Oxford Road (via Pic).
Manchester Oxford Road - Blackpool North (via Chorley).
Bolton - Wigan.
Manchester Pic - Manchester Airport.
Salford Crescent - Wigan (via Allerton line).
Mancherster Pic - Chester (via Altrincham).

I don’t think drivers sign via westhoughton. I’m fairly certain it’s just Vic and Wigan that do.

Guards also sign to Alderley Edge (via Handforth and Styal) and WCML between Wigan and Preston.

They sign to Chester because they needed more work (about 20 years ago) and they didn't at the time sign any electric traction.

Out if interest, how do they retain route knowledge between Wigan and Preston? Seems the only obvious way would be to work Blackpool to Liverpool trains for a different crew to take over at Wigan.

Yes or a Manchester Airport to Barrow/Windermere service.
