Well, today was the 1st time I loaded up BVE since I installed 2GB extra RAM and a GeForce 8500GT GFX Card.

Performance on other sims such as FS2004, and RS are fantastic, but BVE now is non-existant. Its more like a screenshot show!!!

Any idea what has gone wrong with my BVE?!?!

Also on my 1st go, I recieved a blue screen, and the PC restarted!!

Try the 163.75 driver set - these will allow BVE to work properly.

Then use reschanger to change the BVE window mode to a resolution close to your full screen resolution (BVE and Nvidia cards don't like exiting from full screen)

OK tried what you suggested. Much better, but still choppy. Also nHancer doesn't work now, so AA and AF are turned off, but the frames still aren't what the were before the installation

I get the exact same problem with my 9400 GT 512mb geforce, i cant use an earlier driver because then my other games don't work, any suggestions. The jubilee line works great though. I hope this problem is addressed in BVE5

BVE and Nvidia cards don't like exiting from full screen.

Rob - I have Nvidia and am experiencing constant blue screen errors (on exiting BVE in full screen mode) since installing the reschanger program, any idea of the reason behind the incompatibility or how to cure it?

Update - I've been advised on another thread about the BVE/NVIDIA exit issue, and to use Ctrl-Alt-Del to exit BVE, the blue screen of death does not appear using this method.

Additionally, regarding Rob's post above about NVIDIA driver versions, I currently have 163.71 (can't find 163.75 on NVIDIA's website) and BVE runs around 15 to 20 fps. This evening I updated the NVIDIA driver to the latest version 181.22 (22nd January 2009) and BVE was affected terribly, achieving no better than 5 fps and with horribly delayed key-press functionality. The game basically became a screen shot version!

I therefore immediately rolled back the driver to 163.71 and all was OK again. However, I've read other posts where members say they get up to 50 fps, so I'm assuming it's an NVIDIA issue and I should be happy with 20 fps - correct?

Every time I update my NVIDIA drivers BVE4's frame rate drops down to less than 5 per second, I therefore have to roll back the driver, but then again my current driver only gives me a max of 20 fps.

Can anything be done about this? Can NVIDIA not be persuaded by the many BVE Developers to cater for BVE. When I look at the details for each new NVIDIA update it's due to some sort of new game appearing.

My NVIDIA drivers are now almost 3 years behind the times!

Drivers are one of the few things in life were newer doesn't mean better, particularly with BVE.

While 20fps isn't great, it's better than 5fps so if you don't have any problems with other applications, I would suggest you just stay with what you have.

I think it could be the drivers maybe. As BVE used to work fine-ish on my very old computer...
From 2002
Celeron 1.1Ghz, 512Mb RAM and 128Mb Radeon 9200...
So I cnt think of anything else?

Oh oh oh. pmd last idea...

If you have OpenBVE (which is better anyway) try looking thru the graphics settings. It might be set in software mode which is when It dnt use ur hardware from the graphics card which can slow it down a lot!

As I posted above I was using NVIDIA driver version 163.71 which gave me about 15 to 20 fps, in Jan 2009 I updated to 181.22 and BVE was down to around 5 fps so I therefore immediately rolled back to 163.71.

Today I updated to the latest version of 257.21 and my previous rate of 15 to 20 fps has been maintained so I'll stay with it. The days when I used to get 50 fps with a very early driver are long gone.

I'd like to get that (then again i'm lucky to get 25 on some integrated nonsense!)! Besides, the human eye is not able to detect frame rates of 30, So I wouldn't worry about it too much.

Using the openBVE 2 Renderer Demo with the same 600m viewing distance, I get 250 fps at the location featured in the above screenshot (between Hemel Hempstead and Berkamsted). :) Of course, 30 fps is just fine, and anything over around 60 fps is unnecessary (60Hz being a common monitor refresh rate), but if my computer can do better than 60 fps, it means that I have performance reserves which I could use for more route detail, or exterior car objects, etc. Normally I have VSync (vertical synchronisation) enabled, which limits my framerate to my monitor's refresh rate, so I get 60 fps most of the time. A visible set of heavily detailed exterior car objects in particular, can still have quite an impact on my framerates in openBVE 1, though.

I always build my own computers and choose the components carefully, and my latest includes a 3GHz Core 2 Quad Q9650 CPU (but a dual core CPU with the same clock speed would likely be just as good), NVIDIA GeForce GTX 260 graphics card, and 6GB DDR2 RAM (although 2 to 4 GB is just fine). I wanted this to be the best computer I've ever had, and it was built to last me a few years before I felt the need to upgrade again, and so that I could get good performance in modern games, including openBVE. It's actually exceeded my expectations.

Nice, my computer was actually brought Second Hand, it did about 40 - 45 fps when i brought it, then when i updated the graphics card it went down to 20 - 30 fps, and even hits 10fps when driving the 57 or 350 :/
