The line is said to be closed north of Cyffordd Dyfi (Dovey Junction) until 1 December because of the Barmouth Bridge repairs. Imagine my surprise when Class 158s have started running through Tywyn every two hours but just between Tywyn and Machynlleth, which was confirmed on Real Time Trains. Does anyone know if this is to be a daily thing until the reopening, or just a one-off for today?

Machynlleth<>Tywyn trains are in the public timetable from now until the line goes back to normal.

My guess is that it is related to the roadworks in Barmouth which started today. The coaches which were used for the semi-fast do not fit under the bridge that is now the route avoiding the roadworks. Instead single decker buses are in use Machynlleth-Barmouth with the coaches still running Barmouth-Pwllheli.

So I guess Tywyn trains have been added to reduce load on the bus+minibus replacements. Both still seem to go via Tywyn though.

[Correction]
The timetable has no northbound service, apart from the first, between Machynlleth and Barmouth stopping anywhere other than Tywyn. The journey planner therefore gives ridiculous times involving doubling back via Barmouth or Harlech, e.g. Machynlleth to Morfa Mawddach takes 3h40 all day long.

It looks as if the minibus service was deleted rather than the through coach when this week's changes were made.

This must be an error. Anyone have rapid influence with TfW to get it sorted out?

As chance would have it, I did buy a ticket via the forum’s rail ticket site for a journey that includes going north from Morfa Mawddach - and the forum’s rail ticket site has alerted me to the cancellation of the northbound all stations bus. I will do an update when I get there!

Update: the paper timetable displayed at stations is sensible. The journey planner timetables are wrong.

E.g. northbound from Morfa Mawddach is at even xx11.

Southbound, the journey planners now tell everyone to catch the minibus from the main stations for through journeys beyond Barmouth so the coach will run nearly-empty.

I despair of the rail industry.

Real time trains are showing for today Friday 10 November the 12:55 all stations bus northbound from Machynlleth to Pwllheli calling at places such as Morgan Mawddach

And this is showing in journey planners

The in person onboard announcement on the 10:08 Birmingham International to Aberystwyth but only after Shrewsbury (nothing was mentioned on the platform or train when I joined at Wolverhampton) has said that the rear two coaches will be detached at Machynlleth at 12:42 to form the onward 12:51 through train to Tywyn. The auto announcement and the platform information screen at Welshpool make no reference to the rear portion going to Tywyn. Real Time Trains does not show it as a through train but it seems obvious given the train onward to Aberystwyth and the remainder 4 minutes later to Tywyn are both scheduled for platform 2 at Machynlleth

The onboard train staff member is saying that only two people on the train before Welshpool need the Tywyn part of the train. I am in the wrong part right up at the front

Yes, the database times were corrected last night (yesterday TfW customer relations replied to my messages from the weekend saying they had passed it on).

You had the usual crew change at Shrewsbury after which the friendly helpful Machynlleth (or Pwllheli) crew makes sure everyone is the right part or knows to change at Machynlleth.

And the timetable for the rail replacement bus services is posted up at various stations and states that the timetable was revised from 6 November. Would there have been a delay to updating various databases to explain why various planners were wrong. Probably the timetable was not seriously revised other than to demonstrate a requirement for passengers to change buses at Barmouth because of local roadworks. The posted up timetable only says change buses re the buses that do not stop at every station. Apparently no need to change buses re the all stations bus

The posted up timetable also includes a brief description to cover every station as to where the bus stop is for both directions and the words are in English and of course in the Welsh language. I feel very confident that all of the buses will run

We need someone who has good local knowledge to contribute re this Cambrian Coast topic. I am only here for a weekend break
