Camera recommendations

Hi all. Photography was never a strong point for me, although did take pictures with some basic camera's/SLR's way back, in the time of 35mm roll film and before. But for various reasons my use of camera's as such dropped of a cliff many years ago, and whilst I appreciate some will advocate the use of phone technology in todays world, I would prefer to use a proper camera, albeit digital perhaps, which has obvious benefits image wise.
I'd appreciate any views / recommendations in that regard, and would be looking to pay probably no more the 500 of our finest £ - I may be well out of date on pricing however, so may have to adjust that figure, or find another past time!

TIA

Hello @Big Jumby 74 this thread has a few suggestions that are within the budget you mentioned.

And - purely as an example of what a sub £500 digi compact camera's photos can look like - this thread I showed a few of my images. Well, the less awful ones... :)
